Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy looks to have ruled out any chance of Dimitar Berbatov leaving White Hart Lane in January.
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is a known admirer of the 26-year old, prompting fresh speculation of a move to Old Trafford.
But after his four goals in Spurs' 6-4 defeat of Reading on Saturday, head coach Juande Ramos urged Levy to do everything possible to keep him at the club.
Ramos said: "He is a very valuable player for us. But I cannot assure that he is going to stay at the club because the chairman has to decide that.
"The chairman knows I want Berbatov to stay. If it was up to me we would not lose him but there are different circumstances and factors that we have to take into account such as the player's opinion and feelings."
And Levy now appears to have ruled out any chance of the Bulgarian leaving after a meeting with Ramos and sporting director Damien Comolli.
In a statement on Spurs' official website, he said: "Juande, Damien and I have reviewed the squad and Juande feels that we are not looking at any major changes.
"We are all clear that the January window is the worst time to buy quality players so we shall not be doing any business that is not essential.
"Once again for the record, we are not a selling club, rather we are building for the future. When we have players on long contracts we have no need to entertain offers."
