Reds striker Idrizaj upsets Latics

Thu 31 Jan, 08:15 PM

Oldham have accused Liverpool striker Besian Idrizaj of going back on his word after he decided against joining the League One outfit on loan. The Latics used their official website to announce the capture of the 20-year-old Austrian, a regular for Liverpool's reserve side, on loan until the end of the season.

But the article was quickly replaced by a statement which revealed Idrizaj - who has been on loan at Crystal Palace - had opted against a move to Boundary Park.

Oldham also pointed an accusing finger at the player's agent for scuppering the move and claimed Liverpool wrongly reported on their own website that the deal had gone through.

The statement read: "The loan deal for Liverpool's Besian Idrizaj has collapsed after the player backtracked on the deal at the last possible minute.

"The player - who is currently still registered as on loan to Crystal Palace - had agreed to join the club following talks with Latics officials.

"However, with all arrangements made, the 20-year-old's agent got involved and persuaded the player not to join the club.

"Oldhamathletic.co.uk were initially forced into action after Liverpool's official website erroneously announced the deal had gone through.

"Manager John Sheridan and his staff do not wish to employ players who do not wish to play for the club and will therefore reassess the situation."
