Sky Blues reject Forest bid for Best

Thu 31 Jan, 02:00 PM

Coventry have rejected a fresh approach from League One outfit Nottingham Forest for want-away forward Leon Best.Best, who only joined the Sky Blues in a £650,000 deal from Southampton in the summer, handed in a transfer request earlier this month following the news of Forest's interest.

Forest - Best's home-town team - have had two bids for the 21-year-old turned down. The second offer was believed to be £1million.

Coventry boss Iain Dowie confirmed that Forest have returned with a fresh bid - but revealed it was a restructured offer rather than the £1.25million that has been reported.

"They have made a rejigged bid rather than a new bid so they have changed it around to make it look prettier," said Dowie. "There is something on the table but it is not quite what we want."

Dowie would prefer to keep the player at the Ricoh Arena, but has not closed the door on the possibility of Best leaving the club before the transfer deadline.

"Leon has had his head turned but he won't be moving anywhere unless someone meets our valuation of him and we can get similar or better cover in," said Dowie, who has been linked with a move for former Sky Blues favourite Gary McSheffrey after allowing Kevin Kyle and Dele Adebola to leave the club.

"He was brought here for the future so of course we don't want to let him go, but I understand the lure when your home-town club comes in for you."
