Rasiak In Trotters Loan Move

Thu 31 Jan, 10:10 PM

Bolton have signed Poland striker Grzegorz Rasiak on loan from Southampton until the end of the season.

Rasiak, 29, has experience at the top level, having worn the colours of Tottenham and Derby, and Trotters boss Gary Megson was delighted to finally bolster his attacking options after the departure to Chelsea of Nicolas Anelka at the start of this month.

Megson said: "He is a big, powerful centre forward who knows where the back of the net is.

"He will bring more firepower to the squad and allow us extra attacking options."

Megson earlier complained managers are forced to pay over the odds when they recruit good players in the January transfer window.

He had already added defender Gary Cahill to his squad, following his protracted move from Aston Villa for a fee in the region of £5million.

The former England Under-21 international and Rasiak followed Gretar Steinsson and Matt Taylor to the Reebok Stadium.

Cahill, 22, who has been out on loan at Sheffield United and Burnley, could make his debut against Reading on Saturday but Megson believes the club have been forced to pay higher fees than they would have wished.

Megson said: "We have paid too much like we have done in every transfer.

"But that applies to every deal done in this window. The prices are really inflated.

"Having said that we are glad Gary is here. He is a good player now and will get better.

"It has taken a lot of negotiation and had it not gone through now we would have tried to sign him in the close season."

Megson is pleased with his additions.

He said: "They are not panic measures. They are players we have scouted and had watched.

"We have spent a lot of money trying to make the team better."
