Scotland defender Alan Hutton has joined Tottenham Hotspur from Rangers for around £9 million after agreeing personal terms.
He has signed a four-year contract and is Spurs' second major acquisition of the week, following Middlesbrough centre-back Jonathan Woodgate.
The 23-year-old right-back made 122 appearances for Rangers over five years, and has also made six appearances for his country.
Rangers accepted an offer earlier in January but Hutton turned Spurs down, only to reconsider when offered an improved deal.
It has also become clear that Pascal Chimbonda has little future at White Hart Lane, meaning Hutton is all but assured of first-team football.
The Frenchman's agent has said he would welcome a move to Aston Villa, although Chimbonda denied newspaper reports which quoted him as telling friends he would move to Newcastle for money.
Manager Juande Ramos needs to move quickly, as they have less than 36 hours to offload the unsettled full-back before the January transfer window closes.
Meanwhile, Spurs have accepted a bid from Aston Villa for midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng.
The German Under-21 has started the last three Premier League games - six in total - but has yet to hit his stride since joining from Hertha Berlin last summer.
Martin O'Neill's side are also on the brink of signing Tottenham winger Wayne Routledge, who is undergoing a medical at Villa Park.
