Champions League - Euro Club Index: Bayern bounce back
After dropping two places to sixth in the Euro ClubIndex last week, Bayern Munich have bounced back in the latest update of our form guide.
HOW IT WORKS
This season we will use the Hypercube Infostrada Euro Club Index, which scientifically analyses hundreds of thousands of matches from the top divisions in all European nations as well as Europa League and Champions League games.
The Index takes into account all matches played over an eight-year period but with recent results carrying more weight than older ones. The most recent result has 20 times more impact than a result of three years ago.
The performance of a league's teams in the Champions League and Europa League reflects the rise or fall of the sporting level in that league. So, for example, if English teams perform well in Europe, all Premier League teams receive a small bonus in their ECI score. The ranking and its predictive power are thus made even more accurate.

The FA Cup fourth round ties last weekend mean that there is very little movement among the Premier League clubs in the top 20 of our European club form guide.
Arsenal are the only English side to move, shifting up one place to 11th. However, that has as much to do with Internazionale's 1-0 defeat at Lecce as the Gunners' own comeback win against Aston Villa in the FA Cup.
Inter's loss was their second in a week, following a run of eight straight victories, and it's enough to see them drop three places to 14th. City rivals AC Milan remain ninth.
Inter's slump also sees Marseille move up two places, while OM's Ligue 1 rivals Lille re-enter the top 20 after a week out of it at the expense of PSV Eindhoven.
After swapping places with Porto last week, Bayern Munich now switch back with the Portuguese champions after they beat Wolfsburg 2-0 and the Europa League holders lost 3-1 at Gil Vicente.
Manchester City may have been eliminated from the Carling Cup at the hands of Liverpool last Wednesday, but the result on the night was a draw and subsequently they remain fifth.

why isnt the gap between Barca and Madrid wider......after all of these games you think they would realize that Barca is more superior
It's based on the last few years, so why in gods name are Man City in the top five, what exactly have they done in the past few years apart from throw a load of money around. This index is a total joke.
Its based on the last few years, so as Juve weren't even in the top flight they won't make it..
My team.. VILLA are ahead of Stoke and Newcastle because of European games two or three years ago... not any longer.... :o(
what about juve? best italian club right now
Love that photo - Schweini und Kroosi!
