Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp claims Jermain Defoe's stunning form since his move from Tottenham has not come as a surprise. The 25-year-old striker, who arrived at Fratton Park in January from Tottenham, has scored eight goals in seven games, bagging a brace in Saturday's win against Wigan. Redknapp knew all about Defoe's pedigree having managed him at West Ham earlier in his career and has been delighted with his return.
"He'll always score goals - he's been doing it since I first signed him when he was 15," Redknapp said. "I've never seen him do anything else but score goals. He really is a special talent.
"He's sharp and he's just got that instinct for putting the ball in the back of the net. He's always in the right place at the right time and when he gets there, most times he finishes. It's a knack that only special goalscorers have. He's in great form but I'm not surprised - it's what I expected him to do.
"When he was 15 I used to watch him play every Saturday in the south east counties league and he used to score every week. Then I loaned him to Bournemouth and he got 10 goals in 10 games.
"You're guaranteed at least 20 goals a year from him if he plays, there's no doubt about that. He's just a natural, fantastic finisher."
