Pearson pleading for Saints focus

Mon 31 Mar, 01:31 PM

Southampton boss Nigel Pearson has urged his side to focus on their own performances and not those of the teams scrapping around. The Saints could find themselves in the bottom three on Tuesday night depending on how relegation rivals Sheffield Wednesday fare against Coventry.

But Pearson is demanding his players stay focused on deciding their own fate and not concern themselves with results elsewhere.

He told the club's official website: "Sheffield Wednesday play on Tuesday and we have to be realistic and accept we could be in the relegation zone by the time we play again.

"If that happens it is no good panicking, we have to deal with it and make sure we do enough to get out of there.

"We cannot worry about what others do or feel sorry for ourselves or rely on other results. We have put ourselves under increased pressure because of the scores elsewhere and that is a situation we have to cope with. And it may be an uncomfortable week."
