West Brom manager Tony Mowbray has said that he is unsure how close Championship top scorer Kevin Phillips is to signing a new deal at The Hawthorns.

The 34-year-old striker, who has scored 22 goals in all competitions this season, is out of contract in the summer, but reports have speculated that Phillips is close to agreeing a new one-year deal.

Mowbray told Sky Sports News: "Discussions have been ongoing with Kevin's advisors for a long time now.

"If he is [staying] then that's great. I have not really been involved in that conversation for a while now.

"When the games come so thick and fast, we just concentrate on the football and I am sure Kevin is just concentrating on his football and letting other people discuss his contract."
