Manchester United defender Gary Neville lasted almost an hour of a reserve-team draw with Newcastle at St James' Park on Monday night.
Neville has been out for two months with a groin injury, another lengthy spell on the sidelines in an injury-plagued two years for the veteran defender.
However, it seems he is edging closer to full fitness again and could come into contention for next Sunday's Premier League clash with Aston Villa at Old Trafford, or the Champions League showdown with FC Porto 48 hours later.
It was young striker Federico Macheda who made the biggest impression, grabbing a hat-trick for the visitors to earn them a share of the spoils as the match finished 3-3.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Red Devils side took the lead in the first half through a Macheda penalty after Claudio Cacapa was penalised for handball.
Neville and Ritchie De Laet gave away a penalty as they were both in close attendance of Xisco when the Spaniard went to ground, and he duly stuck away the spot-kick.
Mark Doninger gave Newcastle the lead in the second period only for Macheda to equalise with a quarter of an hour remaining after Reece Brown had replaced Neville.
Danny Guthrie smashed home from 25 yards for 3-2, but Macheda finished in the final minute to earn a draw.

chris B i was being sarcastic but it's obviously wasted on you, must be the Scot in you half witt
jimoggie, Carlisle is in England, not Scotland, I was born there so that makes me English, believe it or not. Shows how much you know, J A C K S H I T
Why do I get the feeling that Liverpool fans are jealous of Man Utd????????
chris you don't know 5 hit about football wind yer neck in and concentrate on carlisle your half scottish.
Liverpool don't live in the past its a fact they are more successful than manure its on paper and it seems the good times are about to return, progress has been made and its only a matter of time before they win it 18 years a long time utd waited 30 don't think liverpool will wait so long
I'm a liverpool fan and I don't care if LFC had the ugly bunch playing for em as long as they win something, and regardless what the manure fans think fergie is on his way soon and its critical that they win the prem this year cause its gonna be there last one for some time, Liverpool will win all there remaining games not sure about utd need to play a resugent arsenal and city and a few hard away games too
liverpool is @#$%. i bet man u is going to win the champions l;eague and the premiere laegue!!!!!!!!!!!!
