Premier League - Neville makes United comeback

Eurosport - Tue, 31 Mar 10:20:00 2009

Manchester United defender Gary Neville lasted almost an hour of a reserve-team draw with Newcastle at St James' Park on Monday night.

FOOTBALL 2008-09 Premier League - Gary Neville, Manchester United - 0

Neville has been out for two months with a groin injury, another lengthy spell on the sidelines in an injury-plagued two years for the veteran defender.

However, it seems he is edging closer to full fitness again and could come into contention for next Sunday's Premier League clash with Aston Villa at Old Trafford, or the Champions League showdown with FC Porto 48 hours later.

It was young striker Federico Macheda who made the biggest impression, grabbing a hat-trick for the visitors to earn them a share of the spoils as the match finished 3-3.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Red Devils side took the lead in the first half through a Macheda penalty after Claudio Cacapa was penalised for handball.

Neville and Ritchie De Laet gave away a penalty as they were both in close attendance of Xisco when the Spaniard went to ground, and he duly stuck away the spot-kick.

Mark Doninger gave Newcastle the lead in the second period only for Macheda to equalise with a quarter of an hour remaining after Reece Brown had replaced Neville.

Danny Guthrie smashed home from 25 yards for 3-2, but Macheda finished in the final minute to earn a draw.

  2. foey p, I'm a Carlisle United fan, hardly glory hunting, I read the article as an honest football fan and being interested in the headlines, I commented on Zara'a pathetic comment because it was inaccurate, Manchester United have more wins than Liverpool, that's a FACT, check the league table.

People leave random comments on here without checking facts on what they are saying, so maybe all those people and yourself should go back to school, (if you ever went there in the first place), or crawl back under that stone that you came out from under.

As for glory hunters, Man United promote themselves in Asia and America, and other parts of the world, so they will obviously have big fan bases there, all the bigs clubs do it, including Liverpool, so they probably have as many glory hunters as Man United, the problem with Liverpool fans is they live in the past, and can't handle the possibility of Man United winning a possible 5 trophies.

    By the way, where is Darfford, get an atlas d i c k h e a d

  3. Surely G.Neville has no place in the Utd team when Brown and Rafael are fit, he was quality but surely he should be heading off to Everton any time soon!

Honestly with a poor United side, do you really think they can win 5 trophies after the mightmare at Old Traford and Fulham? I don't think dumb Man U fans want to share dumb Fergie's dream anymore. Liverpool FC, we don't dream, we play football in reality, while Man U plays virtual football. Dream on sukers

  12. 33. hold on now, how can you say anything about how ugly Liverpool is and leave out Kuyt ?? He looks like sloth from the goonies, torres looks like a greasy little cheat (oh that's cos he is one) Mascerano looks like his teeth are too big for his mouth.

In hindsight who cares what anyone looks like, as Rafa says lets look at the facts, United= World, European, Domestic champions, top of the league with a game in hand. Already won the carling cup and world club championship, in semi's of the F.A cup and also in quarters of the champions league.
Liverpool = Quarter finals of the champions league....... am i missing anything else. Thought not !!!!
