Aulas considers life without Perrin

Sat 31 May, 03:45 PM

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas will reveal what the future holds for coach Alain Perrin on Monday, but has named three possible replacements.Perrin appears to be on his way out of Stade Gerland despite this season becoming the first coach to lead Les Gones to a league and Coupe de France double, as he continued Lyon's dominance of French football with a seventh consecutive league title.

However, the side fell short once again in Europe, after being eliminated from the Champions League at the last 16 stage without putting up much fight against eventual champions Manchester United.

As Aulas looks to take Lyon's dominance in France on to the European stage it appears he sees someone other than Perrin as the ideal man to lead his side.

"I've met with Alain Perrin and (assistant coach) Christophe Galtier and I will announce my decision on Monday," Aulas told French newspaper Le Progres de Lyon.

"For some time now I've had a feeling (about Perrin's future) but it's an extremely complicated situation.

"The decision was not easy as they haven't made it easy for me. Bear in mind that we are asking here if we should keep people who are performing well and are still under contract."

However, despite claiming that he faces a tough call over the future of Perrin, he appears to have already made up his mind about who he would like to have as coach should the former Portsmouth boss leave.

"In France alone we have three names: Laurent Blanc, Claude Puel and Didier Deschamps," he revealed.

"The first two are under contract (with Bordeaux and Lille respectively), the latter is not.

"We have other options abroad. If Perrin has to leave then we won't be left wanting."

Following Friday's 2-0 friendly win over Al-Shabab in Dubai, Aulas confirmed on the Lyon's website that the decision over Perrin's future would be made with Europe in mind.

"The decision will be taken with the Champions League being a much more important objective than it has been in the past," he said.

He also revealed that there had been "a good contact" made with Brazilian coach Wanderlei Luxemburgo.
