Matt Holland believes recent signing Mark Hudson has the leadership qualities needed to help Charlton challenge for promotion next season.Hudson, who started his career at Fulham, joined on a free transfer from Crystal Palace earlier this month, penning a three-year deal.

Holland now believes the centre-half will prove to be a valuable squad addition at The Valley.

"I think it's a good signing," Holland told the club's official website.

"He was a key player for Palace last season and at 26 is coming into the prime age of his career.

"He's also a leader and the more leaders we have in the team the better, because that was possibly something that was lacking last season."
