Wigan are set to take on north-west rivals Bolton in the race to sign West Brom's wantaway midfielder Zoltan Gera this summer.Steve Bruce was linked with a move for Gera midway through last season and now appears to have turned his attentions back to the Hungarian as a possible replacement for Antonio Valencia, who is expected to leave the club this summer.
The 29-year-old is set to quit Albion on a Bosman after turning down a new contract offer and there have already been a host of clubs, including five from England, to register an interest in him.
Gary Megson's Bolton have been strongly linked with a move but Bruce has been handed the cash to overhaul his squad this summer and will fancy his chances of persuading Gera to move to the JJB Stadium.
Albion meanwhile appear resigned to Gera's exit having refused to improve their contract offer. He could be followed through The Hawthorns' exit doors by Kevin Phillips and Martin Albrechtsen, who are also out of contract this summer.
