Homegrown youngster Jonny Howson is on the verge of pledging his long-term future to Leeds after the club offered him a new deal. The 20-year-old midfielder has been offered an improved deal after catching the eye last season and chairman Ken Bates is confident he will remain at Elland Road.
"He wants to stay, we want him to stay, and we want to reward him for the way he has broken through this season," Bates told Yorkshire Radio.
"It's been a busy few weeks with the play-offs, but now we can get down to brass tacks."
Howson scored five goals last season to help the Whites reach the play-off final before Gary McAllister's men suffered heartbreak at the hands of Doncaster.
