Premier League - Hiddink takes new Chelsea role

Eurosport - Sun, 31 May 16:03:00 2009

Guus Hiddink has accepted an offer to become a technical adviser with Chelsea after stepping down as manager.

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink holds aloft the FA Cup, after his side beat Everton 2-1 at Wembley - 0

The Dutchman took the reins at Stamford Bridge in February following the dismissal of Luiz Felipe Scolari.

He helped the Blues finish third in the Premier League and advance to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League, where they came within moments of knocking out eventual winners Barcelona.

A number of Chelsea players pleaded with Hiddink to remain in charge beyond the end of the season but he always maintained that he would be resuming his role as full-time Russia boss.

Hiddink will now do just that after signing off as Chelsea manager with victory over Everton in the FA Cup final.

It was an emotional farewell for the 61-year-old but he has now indicated that he will continue to work with the club in a new capacity.

"I will be in continuous contact with the club. Chelsea have asked me to become technical adviser," he told the Sunday Mirror.

"You don't think I was going to turn that offer down, do you?"

  1. Technical Adviser to Chelsea? What does that mean? Where does it leave the Manager (Head Coach)? Maybe Chelsea is considering me for the position of Manager, then Hiddink would be a fitting "Technical Adviser". No Manager worth his salt would (or should) permit that.

  11. azizrahoz, how about you check your facts, i was talikng about the league!!!! Liverpool lost the games you mentioned in the cup. So don't jump in half wy! As it happens i support SAINTS, who would no doubt be stuffed by all of the prem. And i din't say that they had easy games, i used someone elses logic as they said that scolari had the harder games therefor, Hiddink would of had the easier ones. So butt out!

  12. to that guy who said hiddink had easy game check your facts! everton beat liverpool thats 1 then we beat liverpool in cl thats 2 and we beat arsenal by a 3 goal margin which you could not have even beat arsenal.

  13. You're right, but I've enjoyed every minute of this season. Looking forward to the next one. Btw, have you seen the headlines after United-Barca game? I guess it was the Sun with "Catalan VS Matalan" LOL. And There it is - on the main page - Ancelotti leaves Milan..

  14. charliefineman, Ribery is a good shout, I'm just gutted the season is over. Oh well, ashes and 20/20 soon. PLus conferation cup too! PLus wimbledon LOL! Honestly i think that any of the big four could win it next year. UTD are rightly fav's do to their dominance on the league (3 in a row, not loads of points). Arsenal with a decent defender and striker, liverpool with a fit Gerrard Torres combo and Chelsea just need to keep drogba perfoming, he adds soo much to your game! Maybe a creative midfielder if Cole doen't come back fit!

  15. C'mon d.papas, you with me on this one? I think we'd beat them all lol. Don't know. Only time can tell what's yet to come.

  16. I think the fact that he couldn't even manage to bring Milan to this year's UEFA Cup final says it all. I hardly believe he could do any good for Chelsea. I'd rather go for Rijkaard, if I were to choose. Ancelotti is probably a descent man, but still.. Ancelotti could sqeeze the last juices out of mid-30's, but would he do well with the youth? The only thing I like, is that there might be some chance for Ribery to join us. Yeeehahh.

From Charlie, on Sun 31 May 4:27PM
  17. charliefineman, Yeah scolari got those games wrong, but just because chelsea beat all the lower teams in the prem under Hiddink, and were on great form beacuse of this, doesn't mean he would of beaten Both Liverpool and UTD. But hey, i'd be surprised if he's not back in a year to try again!
