A tearful Barry Ferguson was uncertain about his future following Rangers' 1-0 Homecoming Scottish Cup final win over Falkirk.
The 31-year-old, who was stripped of the captaincy and suspended for two weeks without pay for his role in the 'Boozegate' saga, has been linked with a summer move from Ibrox. After Rangers won the Clydesdale Bank Premier League, Ferguson expressed a desire to see out the final year of his contract.
But he told BBC Scotland on Saturday afternoon: "What happens next? I'm going to go away and enjoy a holiday with my family. If that is the end, at least I've come back with my head held high. I made a mistake. I can't turn back the clock."
Ferguson has been linked with West Brom and Premier League newcomers Birmingham, who are managed by former Rangers boss Alex McLeish.
The midfielder said he had endured a difficult couple of months and was reluctant to comment on transfer speculation linking him with a move.
"I didn't think I would get the chance to play again, but I've come back in the last three games," added Ferguson, who today made his first start for Rangers since his suspension.
The midfielder also praised the club's fans for their support following his recent difficulties.
"Last week, especially, the way they treated me when I came on for the last half hour (at Dundee United), meant a lot to me," he said.
Ferguson was delighted to help Rangers land their first double for six years.
He said: "It's great to win a double. It wasn't a great game, but at the end of the day it's all about winning and we've done that."

PT61,60,59...well said and when true fans speak we listen...take note Paul G
the Ferguson of old would not have the Falkirk midfield run him into the ground as was the case on Saturday, lost a yard or two, looks very ordinary now.
barry is a rangers legend and it is a real shame that he will be leaving in such circumsances. he has done himself no favours, particularly at this stage of his career. at least alan mcgregor still has his best years ahead of him. as rangers & scotland captain, he should have led by example. if he truely wants to turn his career around, he only needs to look at david weir's profesionalism, attitute and dedication and follow suit.
As a Rangers fan, it will be sad to see Barry go, but on the other hand, he hasn't been that great this season, as in playing wise.He is a great player, good luck in whatever he decides to do...
Gary S...ur own words say it all "he has carried Rangers in PAST seasons is remarkable, he WAS a class act"
Right folks, that's plenty, he made an arse of himself, get off the media bandwagon. Sadly, not been great for rangers recently but has been a loyal servant to both rangers and scotland for years, might be time to go but don't condemn him, might be best for him (and others, make your own mind up - ,mccullough(spellings wrong), hemdani etc) to leave but let it go. Think his time has gone, hope I'm wrong!
Would love to see Barry stay at the Gers, but seriously this is a major downturn in interest from the last time. Last time there was discussion of a possible move to Man U, now we're thinking West Brom!!!! Too bad, had high hopes for him becoming the Scottish Gerrard.
Leeds best of luck lennon to stay at celtic no matter who gets job surely bust up in offing when things are imposed on new manager?
I GO
WHO IS GIVE THUMB DOWN
HALLO SCOTTISH PEOPLES IS GOOD TO TALK FOR YOU IF YOU IS LIKE FOR TO TALK WIV EROL GIVE THUMB UP IF FOR YOU IS NOT LIKE TO TALK EROL GIVE THUMB DOWN I IS TANK YOU FOR YOU TIME
gary , he couldnt carry my mothers handbag without stealing from it!! he like you needs a reality check !!rangers have played some serious sh#t football???????? this season just like the rest i am discusted with the standard and if it floats your blue/orange boat then you obviously have a very boring / drug influenced existence ,wake up !!!
you can't say he isn't a good player. if you think that you no much of a football fan Scaffit, the amount of games he has carried Rangers in past seasons is remarkable, he was a class act, and don't start slagging off the SPL either, what team do you follow?
gary i am a football fan not a blind bigot and couldnt give a rats arse about your lot or the tattie pickers . take the glasses off when you are finished with the methadone / buckfast and be a realist !! chumpions of what ?? very poor fare !! if i was served that sh#t then i would be leaving home . barry is a disgrace and probably a user and possibly like you delusional !!
scaffit, are you all there?
you just a bit jealous you never had a player like him in the past 10 year, pure class, he plays for the champions.............................................. ......
you are obviously taking the same prescribed or backstreet drugs as your hero !!
you like him are obviously a failure and an embarrasment to your country !
i hope the therapy works , but sadly neadathiles took thousands of years to progress so i fear the worst !! never mind you can always discuss mongo football with your soul mate battered frigmeson
barry barry barry barry ferguson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! class player
he is a joke and a disgrace to football and life . if some clown had not thought he could play football he would be jagging up or dealing . more trouble than he can get himself into !! not half the player his joker of a brother was , another bell end .
see the light and stop patronising wasters
Good Luck to Barry Ferguson! Like the Famine what you done to the Scottish media it's over, don't worry what others may say they have done far worse things like Murdering Innocent People,Interfered with Children,Took money from the Poor,Others take money from the State but DENY being British subjects, while others commit Treason,Felony etc,So Barry hold your head up high, stick out your chest and get on with your Life!!! Let the others drag their knuckles!
