AW glad to have Amaury in armoury

Thu 31 Jul, 09:00 AM

Arsene Wenger will be hoping his latest recruit, Portugal Under-21 midfielder Amaury Bischoff, can slot right into his young Arsenal side.Wenger named a strong starting XI for Wednesday night's friendly against Stuttgart but it was his young substitutes who proved the match-winners as the Gunners came from behind to win 3-1.

Nicklas Bendtner, Carlos Vela and 16-year-old Jack Wilshere were all on target against former team-mate Jens Lehmann's new team at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

It maintained the Gunners' unbeaten pre-season record and came after a 10-2 thrashing of a Burgenland XI earlier this week.

"It is good for the confidence to win here and you could see that the young players did well again," Wenger told Arsenal TV. "I believe the strikers have shown it can work.

"Vela is a little bit like Eduardo da Silva, and Nicklas we already know from the end of last season is a very powerful striker. They both did very well."

Wenger, though, continues to maintain Wilshere will be allowed to develop at his own pace.

"He has talent and gets experience in these kinds of games, he learns a lot, but he is here for that," said the Arsenal boss.

There was a debut for summer signing Samir Nasri, the first pre-season appearance by Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor - a target for AC Milan - and the side was led by captain William Gallas.

Nasri was used in a central midfield role rather than his usual attacking wide position.

"It was a very positive performance for his first game," said Wenger. "He has all it takes to be a good player in this team."

Young Danish striker Bendtner - who bagged four goals on Monday - was introduced by Wenger for the second half, as was promising Mexican Vela, back from his loan spell in Spain.

However, the Gunners were behind six minutes after the restart when Stuttgart substitute Yildiray Basturk drilled in a low strike from the edge of the box.

Arsenal, though, were soon level after Bendtner slipped Vela in on the right side of the penalty area.

The 19-year-old South American held off both his marker and Lehmann before smashing the ball in off the underside of the crossbar.

Vela then turned provider for Bendtner, who nodded on a chipped pass to power into the area and stab the ball past Lehmann.

Wilshere made it a night to remember when he drilled in a left-foot shot following persistent work by full-back Gael Clichy.

Arsenal will now return home ahead of this weekend's Emirates Cup, which also includes Hamburg, Real Madrid and Juventus.

French-born 21-year-old Bischoff - who joined the Gunners after turning down a new deal with Werder Bremen - could make his debut.

  2. i thought wilshire looks brillient at the moment his vision is brillient obviously not as good as cesc's but we all thought the same cesc came into the team. i was worried about the team but i am not now really. but i do hope jack gets a few first team games, and not just as sub.
just a point about arsene buying young he buys at that age because he can develope them and by 25 they are wonder players. but that comes at a price as they might want to go on to some other team. but there are a few who are henry which they give the best years to arsenal. its a risk not like rafa who has spent 20 million on a 28 year old and he knows he will not get any of it back. respect to rafa but he was forced into buying robbie first target was villa.
oh we just made 7-8million bentley.
