Assistant boss Phil Parkinson thinks a young Charlton side learned some invaluable lessons after they beat Dulwich Hamlet 3-1 on Wednesday.Parkinson took charge of the side which struggled against physical opponents in the early stages, but some stern words at half-time prompted a much-improved performance and goals from Lloyd Sam, Ben Godfrey and Mikkel Jensen.
"It was a good lesson for the younger players and we said to them after the game that it happened many times last year with the first team; we went away from home and needed to stand up stronger as a team," Parkinson told the club's official website.
"That's the lesson: you have to stand up to the physical side of football at any level whether it be in the Championship or at Dulwich.
"Obviously we want to get the ball down and play but there is an old saying that you have to earn the right to play football."
