Veteran defender Chris Powell insists he "still has something to offer" as he continues his pre-season trial with Bournemouth. The 38-year-old left-back, formerly of Charlton and England but now a free agent, played in the friendly against Dorchester on Tuesday.
Powell, who made 19 appearances for Championship side Charlton last season, told the Daily Echo: "I love my football so it doesn't matter where I play or in which league. I realise I'm in the latter stages of my career but I enjoy the game. Some people might say I shouldn't be playing at my age but if you're still keen and working and doing the correct things in training then you are worthy of a place.
"It may happen and a lot will happen between now and the start of the season. Hopefully, I'll be here and something can happen. If it doesn't, I'll move on.
"I spoke to Kevin a couple of weeks ago and he told me about the situation at the club. Everybody works hard for the club and wants to do well and I think that's very important. I've enjoyed the training and the boys' spirits are really good - they should be applauded, not only the players, but the supporters as well.
"There may be points coming off as well but I'm sure there will be a team worthy of Bournemouth on August 9 and it's possible I may be part of that. I will speak to Kevin in due course and see where we go from here."
