No Rams plans to sever Savage deal

Thu 31 Jul, 10:00 AM

Derby chairman Adam Pearson insists former Wales international Robbie Savage remains part of the club's plans for the new season.Savage has not figured for the Championship club side in any of their pre-season friendlies, leading to rumours he is set for an imminent departure.

There had been reports the Rams were looking to reach a settlement with the 33-year-old concerning the £2.4million he is set to pocket in the remaining two years of his contract.

However, Pearson is adamant there are no plans to release the former Birmingham and Blackburn midfielder - and expects him to be pushing for a starting role once the 2008/09 campaign gets under way.

"As far as I'm concerned, Robbie still has a future at the club," he told the Derby Evening Telegraph. "I've seen somewhere that we would pay him up, but that's nonsense.

"What we are looking for now is a response from him in terms of getting back in the side.

"We have no intention of settling up his contract. We expect him to fight to get back in the starting XI."

  4. Not sure why Derby bought Savage anyway.I guess desperate Clubs take desperate measures. They need to get rid of him ASAP and start looking forward, by picking up fresh blood from the lower leagues and maybe even non-league players who have it all to prove and would consider it, an honour to play in the Championship.Maybe it's not as easy as that?
