Reds urge Barry to hand in request

Thu 31 Jul, 10:30 AM

Gareth Barry could hand in a transfer request in an effort to force through a move to Liverpool, despite Aston Villa saying the deal is dead. The England midfielder has yet to formally request a move - despite telling the media that he wants to play for Liverpool - because it would see him lose a loyalty bonus.

But reports have now suggested that the Reds will encourage Barry to hand in a transfer request to try and force Villa to accept an offer despite the passing of a deadline.

Although Villa have declared the deal dead after Liverpool failed to come up with the funds by 5pm on Wednesday - with suggestions that the Reds missed the deadline by 15-20 minutes - there is cynicism that the saga is over.

The Daily Mail is still sticking by their Wednesday afternoon exclusive that Liverpool have come up with a £19million deal that involves Steve Finnan moving the other way and claim that the deal will go through on Thursday.

This despite Martin O'Neill declaring: "Naturally we're all absolutely delighted that Gareth will be staying at Villa Park and relieved to find a resolution and closure to the saga.

"We had a very positive meeting on Monday when it was agreed between Gareth, his agent [Alex Black], Mr [Randy] Lerner [the chairman] and myself that a deadline should be communicated to Liverpool to finally resolve the situation.

"Liverpool were informed and that deadline came and passed. Now we can all look forward to the coming season with relief, anticipation and ambition."

  1. i hope barry doesn't come 2 anfield, he's over-rated. though i will say he's far better than owen @#$% hargreaves. but then again, utd always pay over the top for @#$% midfielders. ne1 remember Veron??? he looked like a colombian drug dealer. Rafa needs 2 look at the wings anyway rather than the middle. if he changes 2 keane and torres up front, whos gonna play where in midfield. and send that @#$% lucas off on loan or sumfin, keep Alonso.

  2. to all you villa morons and m u dipsticks you will win @#$% all this year barry is worth the asking price when you look at what that over rated waste of space ronaldo is been touted for he is a bottler when it really matters give me an honest hard grafter any day instead of so called world class dont make me laugh

  3. Yes i agree we should have stumped up the 18 mil cash for Barry as that is the asking price but MON was happy to loan Carson and was told 10 mil to buy even though he is @#$% and not worth it you loaned him and then changed your tune so you are no better and dont make me laugh Villa having the same chance as us in winning league you had to play Intertwobob cup to get Uefa so keep dreaming least if you dont sell GB to us now hell cost us less later.

  4. Voronin is a good player, just not really suited to premier league. If we had of paid 10 million for him people would think he is half decent at least. In a world where football has gone money crazy free transfers are always eyed with a touch of cynicism. Im guilty, i already think Degan is a pile of horse @#$%.

  5. Why is it that when Liverpool sign a new player the Man utd fans straight away slag them off, what did tevez really do last season but put on loads of weight and scored a poaching goal at anfield....and what happened to Rooney the great he didnt score much either last season, just fouls a lot and acts like a baby when it doesnt go his way, i'm a big Liverpool fan but i dont care if barry comes or not if he wanted to come he could have put in a transfer request in by now but hasnt why????? we need to get rid of dead wood like veronin he is so bad.

  6. Also, Im pleased Rafa is going for some quality talent closer to home, its going to be great to see the best Irish striker and first choice English midfielder to link up with Gerrard and Torres. Add that to the spine that is Reina, Carr, Agger, Masch, Lucas, Alonso, and Liverpool have an amazing team. All Liverpool need is David silva as he can play right or left wing, if he doesn't get crushed by the premier league that is. Its all good as long as we don't go bankrupt. M

  7. Aston Villa have shot themselves in the foot and MON is a monkey. I can't believe they are trying to force Barry to stay through fines, training ground bans and deadlines a month before the transfer window closes. Liverpool were about 15 mins late of the deadline and asked for a small extension. Barry is going to be furious, demand a transfer request and will be a liverpool player before next season. MON will be clinging to Barry's legs as he marches out the door to Anfield. Although we are spending a lot on 28 yr olds it shows we are making a huge push for the next two or three seasons and if we win the league no one will care.

  8. i cant understand the scouse train of thought , liverpool wanted £10 million for carson and then sold him for less than £4 million but they will not cough up £18 million for barry so much for a big club ....you spent millions last season and we still scored more goals than you in the premier league ... but good luck next season you have got the same chance of winning the league as we have

  9. LOL. villa fans almost take it personally..!! it's sad really..! I make no claims as to what liverpool will or wont do in the league next season, but villa are no-hopers for sure. barry aside, the team is very average and without him, heaven knows where they'd finish.

and even if he stays, they'll still struggle, because FACT, the key to survival and or success in this league is constant improvement and what improvements have villa made..?!? Sidwell..?!? Lol.

    ENOUGH SAID..!!

  10. Wooh, i said usually, grand Chelsea i said for a laugh but for the most part the bigger clubs do there deals with a bit of decorum and not piss all over the clubs they are buying off. I say this with a very heavt heart but Man U are a perfrect example. They have good realationships with most of the clubs they do dealings with(i don't believe the Berbotov story) but Liverpool and Benitez have acted with no respect for Villa and it is that i am angry about! If Barry wanted to leave fine let him go but do it in private and let any negotiations be done in private not with every sorry excuse for a paper looking over there shoulders!

  12. STANISKING:
Stan is a ####ing Bell*** more like you've really made yourself to like a complete moron there claiming that Chelsea, UTD and Real Madrid don't try to unsettle players or do their transfers in the lime light!! What the hell have you been smoking to not see what has been happening all summer long between Real, Ronaldo and utd you turd and as for Chelski they probably have the worst reputation for "TAPPING UP" players in world football. Go back to playing with your toy trains because you obviously know nothing about football!

Real Madrid/Man U over Christiano Ronaldo and the Slave-saga - Real got reported to FIFA.
Arsenal/Chelsea - Ashley Cole - Chelsea got reported to the FA
Man U/Tottenham - Berbatov - Man U got reported to the FA

What papers do you read saying their deals are transparent? There's three clear cut examples that prove your comments are infinitely more retarded.

Kindly read up on past incidents before you jump in shouting people down, particularly as you made such bold claims that, with the 3 examples I've just shown falls totally flat on it's behind. Like the one you talk out of.

    From mozer69, on Thu 31 Jul 4:08PM
  14. Calm down people. You are all getting wound up by paper talk which probably isnt true. I doubt Liverpool will need to urge Barry to hand in a transfer request as I think he will do it off his own back. Its been 24 hours since MON's announcement yesterday and Barry hasnt come out and said a word....says it all. Expect Barry to be a Liverpool player in the next 7 days. You know why...because he wants too!!

From Daymo, on Thu 31 Jul 4:02PM
  15. mozer69, Christ thats the most retarded thiing i've ever heard.Ac Milan,Chelsea,Man U,Real etc. have the pedigree to attract the best players in the world but they leave all their cards on the table and the deals are always more or less transparent(usually). They don't do what Liverpool have done in both the Keane and Barry saga's, which is declare an interest, publically, try and unsettle the player and dthen hope that the other club will be so deflated ovr the whole thing that they'll give away the player for a bit cheaper just to finish the whole thing!Liverpool and Benitez in particular have acted appalingly through out the entire affair and they should be embaressed by their actions.I used to respect Benitez but he's acted like a complete tool and i will have no symapthy for him when Liverpool underachieve(? maybe 4th isn't so much of an underachievment for them anymore) and he gets shown the door by the 2 @#$%'s in charge of your club!

From MichealS, on Thu 31 Jul 3:43PM
  16. SAM HAVE YOU ANEY GOOD TIPS TO BAY SOME GOOD PLAYERS IF YOU HAVE WHAT TEAM DO YOU SUPORT TO COME UP TO YOUR STANDED I BET SOME ONE LIKE MAN/U YOU @#$%/HEAD GET YOUR FAXS RIGHT

  17. Mike I - Sums up how Villa fans know they've got absolutely no hope of achieving anything of any merit this season when all you've got to look forward to is Everton attempting to do something Villa could never do - Finish above us. I'll give 'em credit, they're looking to improve their squad by looking at Moutinho. You've signed Brad Friedel and some part-time ginge who had a half decent season for Reading, thought he could mix it with the big boys at Chelsea, failed miserably and then scored an OWN GOAL on his DEBUT for Villa. LEGEND. I really hope if we do get Barry that O'Neill has him in mind as a like for like replacement, you'll STORM to the bottom of the league!

Jog on you bunch of n'er do wells.

  18. alec, you jerk ,, villa started the pre season telling lfc that gareth barry was going no where for less than 18 million. so at that point you could have said no thanks he is not worth it, walked away pride in tact. you did not do that, you picked a fight and lost, so what your just liverpool ,you aint all that. everton 4th liverpool 5th , will i smile, oh yes i think that i will.

  20. what are liverpool doing buying two 28 yr old players? if they fail to win the title this yr or next then 40 million will be wasted as they will be far too old to sell on. Spurs seem to be getting it right watch them this season.
