Gareth Barry could hand in a transfer request in an effort to force through a move to Liverpool, despite Aston Villa saying the deal is dead. The England midfielder has yet to formally request a move - despite telling the media that he wants to play for Liverpool - because it would see him lose a loyalty bonus.
But reports have now suggested that the Reds will encourage Barry to hand in a transfer request to try and force Villa to accept an offer despite the passing of a deadline.
Although Villa have declared the deal dead after Liverpool failed to come up with the funds by 5pm on Wednesday - with suggestions that the Reds missed the deadline by 15-20 minutes - there is cynicism that the saga is over.
The Daily Mail is still sticking by their Wednesday afternoon exclusive that Liverpool have come up with a £19million deal that involves Steve Finnan moving the other way and claim that the deal will go through on Thursday.
This despite Martin O'Neill declaring: "Naturally we're all absolutely delighted that Gareth will be staying at Villa Park and relieved to find a resolution and closure to the saga.
"We had a very positive meeting on Monday when it was agreed between Gareth, his agent [Alex Black], Mr [Randy] Lerner [the chairman] and myself that a deadline should be communicated to Liverpool to finally resolve the situation.
"Liverpool were informed and that deadline came and passed. Now we can all look forward to the coming season with relief, anticipation and ambition."

and on the article... "ambition"..?!? what ambition..?!? villa started pre-season hoping to cash in on barry. FACT..!!! realised rafa's fist would not be prised open forcefully and having realised that nobody of any significance is willing to join villa, they retracted their intentions and are now desperate to hold on to him because without him, they'd probably struggle to make a top 10 finish.
I think the whole world, villa fans exempt., agree that barry is good but simply not worth 18 million pounds. NOBODY would pay that for him.
If L'pool really wanted Barry then they wouldn't have paid out 19M for Keane---it's as simple as that
@ mozer.. great comeback mate..!! LOL

Bellend eh? What a well structured argument.
Liverpool DO have the power to wade in, Villa have realised this and have decided to be the David to our Goliath and stand up to us by trying to overcharge us for an average midfielder, but have basically ended up looking like a gang of whinging little girls instead, much like yourself whose only retort is by calling me the tip of a penis
Hats off to you. You can tell your mum you've finished on the PC now and go back down the park and build dens with your mates.
Mozer 69
You are a bit of a bell end really. There would not be a problem if Liverpool had "the power to wade in and buy the best players from clubs"
They would have just bought him by now for the asking price and this whole sorry episode would have never gone on so long. They declared their interest... Villa gave them a price and have stuck to it and ever since... Liverpool have dithered.
It beggars beleif that you need to have such a simple concept spelt out.
its going to happen one way or another, should be the final piece of the jigsaw.up the reds.
yo mozer 69, PUT it in yer name dont mean you will get some)
we have an expression around the midlands, it seems to suit you perfectly..
mozer YOUR A @#$% !
Villa - whingebags
Barry - overpriced overrated
Liverpool - getting unfair critcism for finally having the power to wade in and buy the best players from clubs after years of having to scrape by with bit part players. United, Chelsea, Real Madrid, AC Milan, they all do it. Villa and their fans need to get over the fact that Lerner can only stump up cash for superstars such as Brad Friedel (surely pushing 90 now?) and Chelsea reject non-starter Steve Sidwell. That's progression for you. I pity Villa, they're in the position Liverpool used to be in. Buying mediocre players as opposed to world class like Torres, Mascherano and Keane. Plus I don't think they want to see Barry not getting a game week in week out, as he'll have to learn to cope playing along side so many international level midfielders that he might not always get a shirt.
Cry more Villa.
@ bromleyhall
Are you retarded? Villa said he could go if Liverpool pay the asking price... it is Liverpooll that need to come up with the cash to "stop this nonsense" you complete fool.
There is no point in Villa holding on to Barry as his heart is set on Liverpool, Villa should wish him well and stop this nonsense, Gareth Barry does not have to prove his loyalty to Villa. Martin Oneil owes him at the dignity of leaving on good terms. Paul.
its about time villa took legal action against liverpool for illegaly trying to poach a player that would shut benitez up
@#$% to 'em
Come on!! Liverpool!!
That really make u guys seem desperate, it looks ugly.
why don't u move on and look for someone else?
Act how should a big clubs look likes.
Look at Milan and Shevchenko. Chelsea said no, then they moved on and look for someone else.
p.s I am not Villa fan, neither Liverpool
