Thatcher handed Wolves trial

Thu 31 Jul, 03:15 PM

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has handed a trial to defender Ben Thatcher after the former Manchester City player turned down Ispwich. The 32-year-old is a free agent after being released by Charlton at the end of last season and has turned down the chance to join Ipswich already this summer after a trial at Portman Road.

McCarthy also has former Leeds man Ian Harte on trial as he looks for a left-sided defender, and Thatcher played 70 minutes of Wednesday's behind-closed-doors friendly with Bolton.

"We will be taking a look at Ben in much the same way as have Ian Harte over the past few days," McCarthy told Wolves' official website.

The game with the Trotters ended in a 1-1 draw, with Liam Hughes on target for Wolves.

  1. I have nothing against Ben Thatcher but I do think Wolves should be aiming a lot higher than that. The same applies toIan Harte. They are both O.K. players but will in my opinion not help Wolves into the premiership.
