Zenit: Arshavin Talks Continuing

Thu 31 Jul, 06:09 PM

Zenit St Petersburg say Andrei Arshavin could be a Tottenham player within five days.

Russia forward Arshavin has been heavily linked with a move to White Hart Lane in recent days, with Zenit having invited them to make a bid upwards of £20million.

But while Spurs are apparently unwilling to meet that asking price, Zenit spokesman Konstantin Sarsaniya has said talks are continuing - and could be concluded within a matter of days.

He told sports.ru: "We have certain contacts with Tottenham, but when they will conclude, I still do not know.

"Maybe within five days, maybe sooner, maybe later.

"Tottenham have an interest in the player, and I understand that the player has an interest in the club too."

  1. Arshavin???? There are not too many eastern bloc wonders that have set the world alight here - remember rebrov?? acimovic, bunjecevic, milosevic (Villa) et al reserve judgment on modric... For all spurs spending they key to next season is keeping a fit back 4 (Woodgate, King, Bale, Hutton etc) - going forward most acknowledge spurs will always get goals the problem is our defence is too welcoming - letting defoe leave ahead of bent proven to be mistake as he would make ready replacement for Keane - for gods sake spurs, buy quality at the back (the likes of cannavaro etc with unbeatable experience and a world class defensive head) - still although excited about the new campaign, dont think we'll threaten top 4

  4. Arshavin is not worth 20mil but he is a good player. And lets face facts, which other top players are knocking on spurs door asking to join after last seasons performance in the league.

  5. nice to see spurs splashing the cash, its a shame keano has gone, but he served us well and gave 100%.not like berba, dont get mewrong he is a class act and could play for any big side.he is not a team player and brings a negative vibe to the side to often. take 30 million for him.get rid of stalteri, lee, rocha, boateng, ghaly, zokara, none of them are good enough for spurs sell them to west ham,our feeder club :)

  6. Barcelona, Arsenal, chelsea, all had options on Arshavin and DECLINED to buy. Does that not tell you something? Euros one hit wonder and at 27, has touted himself to all and sundry for the last month. No takers so has now attached himself to Spurs. Well there you go, nice payday for his agent, Mr Lachter, who must be worn out by now. Shame before the Euros nobody had heard of Arshavin, still hes about right for the spuds.....
