Premier League - Keane: Stoke are a disgrace

Eurosport - Thu, 31 Jul 14:20:00 2008

Sunderland boss Roy Keane has blasted Stoke over their treatment of transfer target Marton Fulop.

Roy Kean - 0

The Potters looked set to sign the goalkeeper after agreeing a fee with the North East club for the Hungarian earlier this month.

However, they were unable to agree personal terms with Fulop and pulled out of the deal before signing Thomas Sorensen on a free transfer.

Fulop has now been forced to return to the Stadium of Light and Keane is furious at how Stoke have conducted themselves in the whole episode.

"They took him for a trial, made him an offer and he asked for a bit more - but they said that's it," Keane told The Sun.

"It's a bloody disgrace to treat a player like that."

  3. "Stoke are a disgrace...."

    Re-Re-Wind Mr Keane.

Remember when Rory Delap was on loan at Stoke with view to a permanent deal? Remember when he broke his leg against, ooh, let me think, oh yes, Sunderland. We stuck to our agreement and signed him EVEN THOUGH WE COULD OF STUCK TWO FINGERS UP AT YOU!

    " KEANE IS A DISGRACE...."

  5. I did have a lot of respect for keane, always liked a bit of passion in the game, but has just lost all on that stupid comment, not forgetting he loaned fulop for a total of 2 days last season before recalling him (day before he was due to play) now that's more of a disgrace, than a newly promoted team trying not to over splash the cash and "do a leeds" , he's just upset he didnt get his 3 mil for a bloke whose primary role at the club was to hold the tracksuits while sitting on the bench!

  6. Can't let these comments go without responding to them. Keane may be in the wrong for saying what he did ,if infact ,he did say it. The tabloids and gutter press make up and twist what has been said and come up with their own headlines. None of us know what has gone on behind closed doors and those that live in Glass houses shouldn't throw stones!!!!
I hope your season goes well for you but, I don't think you will get out of the botttom three. Sorrensen was a good player, but has lost the sparkle that got us promoted and kept in the P.L. Whilst at Villa he didn't get it back and his performance in the european championships was poor to say the least.

  7. Sorry mr Risinangel you can slag off Stoke for all your worth for all we care and we may go straight back down to the Championship, We are under no illusion that its going to be a battle for survival from the start of the season
but we are sure as hell going to enjoy every minute of it as it may be our only chance.
I suggest you look to survival rather than grand plans for Europe unfortunately you guys are not ready yet to be a top half team you finished 3 points off relegation remember?
We wish you all the best anyway, see you at the Britannia Stadium lets enjoy the football.

  8. Keen is upset because he's expected £3m for his reserve goalkeeper. Whose daft Keen?

  9. Kaboul was one of the biggest disappointments of last season. If it was my choice I wouldn“t have wanted him even for free but if he thinks that it is better for him just to "polish" the bench in Tottenham it is his choice

  10. hey roy dont read this @#$% stoke are in the premier league for the season they will be back down again sorenson isnt as good as he was he's gone down hill since leaving sunderland tony pullis is looking for free bee's and has beens he cant afford any of his dream targets they are a poor club with a questionable board who are pretty poor so you did the right thing in giving them everything the got told NOW WAIT AND SLAUGHTER THEM ON THE PITCH AND GET THEM RELEGATED THATS WHERE THEY BELONG FROM A 35 YEAR VETEREN SUPPORTER

WERE GOING TO GET BETTER AND BETTER THEY ARE GOING BACK TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP

  11. Easy way to beat Stoke next season; high crosses into six-yard box. Sorensen is a great shot-stopper but is a vampire with crosses, he just stays rooted to his line. Every Stoke fan will @#$% bricks at every corner , you'll see!!

  12. Funny I never read Tottenham saying Sunderland are a disgrace, because of the way greedy Younes Kaboul was treated, not signing for Sunderland. I suppose Keane would pay him whatever he asked for, but he still wouldn't sign anyway....too many earthquakes probably ! !. Kettle calling the pot black, I think Keane should retract his comment, and apollogize to Stoke City.

    Potters fan.

  13. Keane has always been a idiot and a bully and it seems his managment skills are just the same as his football skills, ugly and disgraceful at times!!!
Keane, sort yourself out your not it the school yard now pal, grow up and act proffessional.

  14. Don't recollect Keano calling Stoke a 'disgrace' when he poached their captain Danny Higginbottom the season Sunderland won promotion! And tommyf, Stoke have been offering Fulop a deal since last March and he still hasn't made his mind up come July! No wonder they've gone for Sorensen.
Well done Pulis, Peter Coates and the Stoke board for not being held to ransom by players' wage demands. For the last two seasons they have been shrewd and canny dealers in the loan and transfer market and won promotion as a result. Crowds are up, season ticket sales are up, and there's a feel-good factor thro the whole city. We wanna be a Portsmouth not a Leeds United!

  15. As a Plymouth Argyle fan I, like thousands of us down here have a huge regard for Tony Pulis. An honest guy managing an honest club. Never did have much regard for Keane and the football football planet he inhabits is not one most ccc fans live in, but regretably recognise - with increasing distaste. I pray Stoke 'hang on in there' this season! DR

  17. Ive lost all respect for Keane becuause of this. He even said the other day that Fulop was being greedy and then he comes out and slates stoke. From what the local rag said We (stoke) offered Fulop more than he was on at Sunderlnd and 1st team football but hes still wanted more and its wasnt a little bit more it was 10k more. Im glad stoke turned him down and have set a presedence to not bankrupt the club unlike Hull who i think will be the next Leeds.

  19. Promoted clubs find it harder in the Premiership, and Keane said that Fulpo had asked for 1st team games, and agreed the fee with Stoke. When the deal was sorted, Fulop got greedy like Scott Carson, who's transfer had also been agreed. Stoke pulled the plug on both deals, and have showed they will only sign quality, honest players. We will see who gets relegated, but it won't be Stoke City.
    Potters fan.

    From monvid1@..., on Thu 31 Jul 12:35PM
  20. I'm sure Fulop is a decent keeper but Stoke were not willing to pay personal terms over the odds
    for Sunderlands second keeper,
If Keane is that upset why did he not keep him,
If he is that good then Keane is a disgrace for trying to sell him in the first place.
At last a team that is unwilling to bend to unreasonable demands good for you Stoke and I wish you all the best for your first season in the premiership
