Brazils Thomaz Petterson blew the competition out of the water at the Sopelana Pro yesterday, shutting the place down with the highest heat score of the day, securing a 14.67 out of a possible 20. Petterson has been in storming form over the last few weeks, taking wins at Cordoama in Portugal and San Sebastien in the Basque Country, tearing into the European waves in his final year on European surfings junior circuit.
Following his strong performance, Petterson said, Things have been going great for me so far and I couldnt hope for more before flying to Europe. Two wins in two events is already amazing so I will be using the same relaxed approach and hope for another good result here in Sopelana.
Reunion Islander and hot favourite for the win, Adrien Toyon also put in a strong performance to post one of the highest heat scores of the day. He said, The Sopelana Pro Junior is a good event but a Grade-1 event though. I take it more as a warm-up contest to make sure I have the feeling right and get enough confidence before going into August and the last three crucial events at Lacanau, Hossegor and Tenerife. But I am still hungry for a good run here and a bit of prize money would be even better!
