The penultimate stop of the 2009 Downhill World Cup will go down in Bromont, Canada this weekend, with Great Britains Steve Peat and Gee Atherton both in for a shot at the title. Atherton has been in blistering form in 09, and was looking good for the win in Maribor, but slammed full-throttle into a tree on his race run.
Steve Peat, often referred to as the King of Downhill, has taken two wins already this season, but a puncture at Maribor and a mistake in his race run at Fort William has prevented him from pulling away in the overall standings. He is currently sitting in second place behind Aussie phenomenon Sam Hill.
What has become one of the most closely fought World Cup series in recent history is looking like going down to the wire, with each of the top five in with a shout at the overall win. South Africas Greg Minnaar dropped back to third place overall following last weekends race in Mont-Sainte-Anne, and will be looking to regain ground as we approach the final round at the infamous Schladming venue.
The relatively short track in Bromont has become a rider favourite, characterised by super steep, rocky chutes that give way to fast, loose berms. With the possibility of heavy rain overnight, conditions could throw up any number of surprises this weekend.
