Wales may not get World Cup advantage

Fri, 31 Jul 11:22:27 2009

The International Rugby Board have warned Wales may not be allowed to enjoy home advantage if the Millennium Stadium is sanctioned as one of the venues for the 2015 World Cup.

England have struck a deal with the Welsh Rugby Union to stage five pool matches and two quarter-finals in the 74,500 capacity stadium - but that agreement is still subject to approval from the IRB.

Japan are in a similar boat having included plans in their successful bid to split a pool between Hong Kong and Singapore in order to make the 2019 World Cup an Asian tournament.

The IRB require a "compelling reason" for any World Cup host to stage matches outside their territory and the Millennium Stadium would appear to tick all the relevant boxes.

England 2015 is projected to be the most profitable World Cup ever with targets to sell a record 2.8million tickets, and the Millennium Stadium is a key part of those plans.

But questions were raised in Tuesday's IRB council meeting about whether Wales should benefit from home advantage in an England World Cup.

And IRB chief executive Mike Miller said: "They (Wales) may not necessarily be there (at the Millennium Stadium).

"We will have to look at the match schedule and see how that would work.

"The vote was for matches in the host territory only. The host unions can then come back to the Rugby World Cup board and if they want to propose matches in other territories we would look at it and see if it met certain criteria.

"It would need to be in the best interests of the game globally, enhance the showcase and could it increase the finances? There would be no problem necessarily but we have to have the discussion. We will see when they come back with their proposals, have a look and see what is in the best interests of Rugby World Cup."

  4. Donald Duck its obviously bothering you that because you keep responding, When us tossers and minority people that nobody care about are obviously having a chuckle at your expense.

But I apologise for claiming to bring you down a peg or two. as your inability to see and understand two sides of an argument has proved abolutly pointless, and any request for the stadium you claimed to have built is obviously offensive to your english nationlist views.
I suggest if you feel that strongly you could always write a petition to Gordon Brown requesting that the United Kingdom be rename England. And While you sing Swing Low sweet chariot, please carry on imagining the Celtic countries as to be your slaves as you feel they are below you.

But Donald Duck please remember, The majority of us are in favour of the United Kingdom. Just because you are not. It doesnt make us all tos-sers. I think you should change your name to fred flinstone and your that pre-historic with your views.

And finally, nobody here is pompous, The rest of us managed to see and understand things reasonably, acknowledge peoples ideas and views, without branding them a tos-ser all because they disagree with another person. If it makes us pompous to disagree with you, then you've got nearly seven billion pompous people on this planet, as we will all disagree with you at some point.

Well done if you are really a marine (In my experience Royal Marines don't keep going on about what they do)- but what the F8ck that has got to do with the Millennium Stadium eludes me... or is it just your argument-stopper? If it is, I think it's a bit of a waste. And why wouldn't I understand that comrades in arms would put their lives on the line to save each other? It's not that difficult to understand. It's what all the services have to do - and I respect them enormously for it.

You are both miss the point that the reason I have a go at you is because you are pompous and self-important. Not really that bothered if you are Welsh or not to be honest. All this talk of bringing me 'down a peg or two' sums it up. Your silly comments have no effect whatsoever on me - just as mine have none on you (other than to annoy you obviously) The difference is that I don't care what you think.

  7. He also took an impertinent shot at me (a proud English officer) because I dared to suggest that to utilise the Millennium Stadium made sense, and would benefit the sport financially. How that could be construde as anti-English, escapes me.

I am a Royal Marine, and have Welsh, Scots and Irish mates that would put their lives on the line anytime, to save my English a rse (as I would them); but this guy will never understand that. WE ARE BRITS YOU FOOL!

This to sser is just a closet nationalist and I'm embarrassed by his comments.

  8. Who said spunge was referring just to the internet.. He said your a Xenophob, a Racist, a Bully & a thug. I wouldnt be suprised if you also voted BNP, from you attitude to and about people. From what I can see your a narrow minded little bigot, with plenty of insecurities.

The do say the majority of racists dont actually realise they are one.. And from your general attidute and language in posts I've seen. The term racist suits you well.

Sorry to make this personal, but you need bringing down a peg or two!

  13. Donald D!

from the posts I've seen of yours recently on various articles you are a bit of a xenophob bording racist. And at bare minimum a bully or thug.

From spunge, on Thu 30 Jul 9:17PM
  14. Somebody agrees with you donald duck and your polite. every post i've seen you write involving the welsh or anybody who disagrees with you is derogatory. I'm not just referring to this article but many others you have commented on.

And as I disagree with you.. I'm a @#$%! I'm guessing I must also be a petty little Welshman too, who cant even stand up for himself. And by the way, I aint. I acknowledge that 99% of the English population dont have a problem with the welsh or any other nationality. but there is the xenophobic and racist few, which I feel Donald Duck is one of, that cause a problem.

He previously stated 'I'm sure it's highly offensive when you realise that Welsh is a minority that no-one is bothered about'

This is not a personal attack on the english, this is just a questioning of why an individual is so narrow-minded? I couldnt care if you were Mickey, Minnie or even Pluto.

I encourage debate, I actually enjoy it, I just find debate difficult and pointless, when emotion is the purpose. The fact of the matter is the Millennium Stadium is the best venue for the purpose. But Donald Duck seems to have a problem with the stadium he built purely because of 35miles of where you think it should of been built.

"The first welshman shouted to thank god, for everything great about Wales, the green grass, the fresh air, the rolling hills and asked what he had dont to deserve such a great land as its paradise.. God slightly confused responded.. 'You obviously havent met the neighbours yet"

    Twll dîn pob Sais!

100% agree with that, but I love to flush out the tossers with a bit of a dig every now and then ;-)

  16. Actually I'm taking a pop because you are so pompous bealds6. Please don't start on this 'why are you being horrible to me?' tack because you can be as personal as anyone else when people don't agree with you. Take your most recent post for instance:

"I'm guessing your insecure about something.. you suffer from short person's syndrome or the inability to have a sense of humour?"

A bit like when you 'guessed' that I had 'never even been to the Millennium Stadium' because I dared to disagree with you about it being indispensable to the English World cup bid....

From Donald D, on Thu 30 Jul 7:08PM
  17. I think its only the Welsh who have got this idea that they are below the English cos they keep harping on about it . I personally havent a problem with any nationality & neither have 90 % of the English population .

From firstchoicepm, on Thu 30 Jul 6:58PM
  18. So Donald Duck? Why is everything so personal with you? Your taking a pop at people just because they disagree with you. It'd take a complete dullard not to notice alot of my posts involve a bit of tongue and cheek.

I'm guessing your insecure about something.. you suffer from short person's syndrome or the inability to have a sense of humour?

The fact of the matter is the RFU (THE ENGLISH RUGBY FOOTBALL UNION) wants Wales to host 5 Games.. and the IRB have stated that they only agreed to the english venues, even though the Millennium Stadium was part of the bid.

But you seem to not understand that and either see any idea that Wales having an exsistance as a personal attack and you must respond in complete verbal abuse. Please understand that Wales is a country and we have a right to exsist, and the Welsh are not below the English!

Please only post a response if you lost the narrow-mindedness.

    From bealds6, on Thu 30 Jul 6:42PM
  19. I think this is the post that bealds6 was referring to

"Get over yourself. I helped build the Millenium Stadium ya @#$%! All the engineers etc were English and the labourers were Welsh! I was there many many times.

Not exactly 'building it single-handed' is it? Oh, and by the way, I was responding to an accusation that I 'probably hadn't even been to the Millennium Stadium'

From Donald D, on Thu 30 Jul 6:11PM
  20. Wales - not part of the bid.
