Farfus clocked a one minute and 37.626 seconds lap early on in the session and did not see his time bettered as other drivers struggled on the track.

Fellow BMW driver Andy Priaulx got closest to Farfus, also setting his time of 1:37.763 in the early stages of the session, while Jordi Gene was third quickest for SEAT Sport.

Yvan Muller and Tiago Monteiro quickly followed while Jorg Muller, Felix Porteiro and Rickard Rydell rounded out the top eight.

The session was temporarily halted 10 minutes on after Stefano D'Aste jumped the kerbs and crashed into a wall at the Piper Bend while James Thompson's session was also cut short as his LADA Priora suffered power steering problems, meaning the Brit could only complete six laps.
