Premier League - Gerrard and Johnson out

Steven Gerrard and Glen Johnson will miss Liverpool's trip to Fulham on Saturday, while Alberto Aquilani is a doubt.

Gerrard has been struggling with a groin strain for a number of weeks, having picked up the problem on England duty.

He returned to the side for the Champions League meeting with Lyon, but limped out of the defeat after 25 minutes.

Gerrard sat out the Premier League win over Manchester United and Carling Cup defeat to Arsenal, but the problem has failed to respond to treatment.

Reports have suggested he may require surgery, but Benitez would not be drawn other than to say Gerrard will not face Fulham.

"Gerrard still has a problem with his groin so he won't be available this weekend," said Benitez.

"At this moment he's working with the physios. He has to keep working and we'll decide next week how he progresses."

Fellow England star Johnson has been ruled out of the game with a calf tear, while summer signing Alberto Aquilani has been laid low with a virus.

Benitez added: "Johnson has a small tear in his calf, so we will lose him for maybe one week."

On Aquilani, Benitez added: "In terms of fitness he's doing well. His ankle is coming on well. The problem we have now is that he has a virus, so it will be difficult for him to be available.

"We will see this afternoon how he feels but he was a little bit sick yesterday.

"He wanted to play against Arsenal and was really pleased to go. He wants to go and play against Fulham but we'll have to decide how he feels."

They can't be bothered­ to raise themselves for the 'wee'er teams'.­ That's why they've won f*ck all in the last 20­ years. They forget that there is 39 games in a league­ season and not just 5 or 6.
