Scott strike seals point

Substitute Josh Scott maintained Dagenham's unbeaten home record with a late goal as they drew 1-1 with Port Vale.

The striker clipped the ball over Chris Martin after 88 minutes, after latching on to a long pass from captain Mark Arber, while the promotion chasers could have won it but for Paul Benson's late miss.

The goal was nothing more than the hosts deserved as Scott and debutant Harlee Dean both missed sitters in the closing stages, while Graeme Montgomery also had a volley flash off target.

It was Vale who had taken the lead after 38 minutes, when Louis Dodds smashed a shot into the top corner after collecting Lewis Haldane's ball from the right wing.

Daggers had started strongly as Peter Gain and Stuart Thurgood both sent shots narrowly over the top, while Wes Thomas almost diverted Danny Green's strike into the net from close range.

Haldane fired a warning shot for the visitors, as he crashed a right-foot drive against the bar, before Dodds pounced to score.

After the break, Gain's curling effort was palmed clear by Martin, while Benson was also denied by a sharp save from the keeper.

Vale could have increased their lead, but Jason Jarrett shot over the bar, while Dodds glanced a header off target.
