Disgraced King will join new club - agent

Sat, 31 Oct 11:04:49 2009

Disgraced footballer Marlon King will be signed by another club when his jail sentence is finished, his agent insisted.

The player was told he would be sacked by Wigan on Thursday after being jailed for 18 months for breaking a woman's nose and sexual assault. His agent Tony Finnegan said that prison would change the striker and that he had career prospects on release.

"There are lots of players in this country who have fallen short of the law, done the crime, done the time, come out, and I'm sure if you're sitting in a six by six you do have time to reflect on the change you make as a person in your life," Finnegan told Sky Sports News. ""Forget about playing football here, just as a human being you're going to be different. He still will be a good goalscorer and I'm sure someone will want his signature to play football and do the job that he's best at."

Mr Finnegan accused Wigan chairman Dave Whelan of playing "white knight" in sacking King.

"He was playing white knight in my opinion to say 'right we don't want that here'," Finnegan said. "You can't just dismiss an employee and think you can dismiss him publicly like that, the union get in on it."

The agent said the Professional Footballers' Association would now have to get involved to "find out the facts".

King, from Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire will lose more than £1million following the termination of his £35,000-a-week contract.

Mr Whelan said: "We have to follow the rules and regulations, which means we will have to give him 40 days' notice that his contract will be cancelled. He is absolutely sacked - we will not tolerate football players who get sent to jail for 18 months. As far as we are concerned, he is finished with football at Wigan Athletic."

  2. I feel that in many cases if a young man with no money did what he has done they would have got a much longer sentence, he should be gratefulto the judge and keep quiet. He is a lucky man and will still have a nice home to return to when he gets out.
I really hope to club will be silly enough to sign him, so let him learn to really work for a living.

  3. Don't forget that apart from his violence to women, King also headbutted the once lovely Dean Windass and made him ugly!

No doubt some idiot club will sign him " he needs to be given a second chance" but I am glad that Wigan did the right thing and sacked the thug.

Hope he is sharing his cell with Big Mick who likes them to struggle eh?

  4. This "second-chance" bit just does not cut it. He's had 13 other chances and British law failed the public. No one deserves a 14th, 15th, or 16th chance. If someone had punished him before, perhaps this girl would not have had to suffer at his hands.

This is where the FA should make a lifetime ban or at least 5 years or more. After 13 times - the FA has to say "enough is enough" - no matter how talented you are!!!! He's had more than enough chances. Think of all the young girls and women who show up to the football grounds to watch a match, and perhaps run into him in a dark parking lot or pub somewhere after the game. If he is ever, indeed, allowed to play; the club that sign him should have to assume full responsibility for all of his actions on and off the pitch. This would include any financial liability he would owe to the victims of his next crimes.

  5. All this @#$% we hear about footballer being role models - get a grip on your lives !!! YOU, THE PARENTS SHOULD BE THE ROLE MODELS TO YOUR KIDS... not footballers, not actors... the family is the miniscule society. You are 32 , you have a kid who is 16 and you are already a grand dad or grand mum, you can hardly read or write, your kid too...yet you blame the footballer who probably has the same kind of childhood as yourself? grow up people..spend time with your kids, talk to them, do what is right and what the footballers do wont really matter to ur kids

  6. i agree with 17, Marlon King has a right to start again when he has served his time. he was a stupid man and rightly so, the judge has passed a sentence on him..so be it. I think his boss is just playing to the gallery by sacking him on the pages of newspaper. it is right for everyone to now sit in judgement.. He who has never sinned, let him cast the first stone

  7. "King - who has 13 previous convictions including one for violence against women"...The British 'justice' system is a complete joke! Well, it would be a joke if people's lives weren't being ruined by psychopaths that should've already been imprisoned years ago. I had no idea King was such scum. Britain should have the 3 convictions, of any criminal nature, equals a life term, like in America. Most people have zero convictions. Most offenders are repeat offenders and should be exterminated really. This low life gets 12-18 months!?

"King's wife Julie - a former Miss Zambia - has vowed to stand by her husband. Speaking to The Mirror from their mock-Tudor home in Goff's Oak, Hertfordshire, she said: "I'm standing by him because I love him and I know he is innocent.""...Sounds like she has the man she deserves. Scum!

  8. If you are a lawyer, salesman, carpenter, model, engineer, teacher, etc., and you committed this crime, there would not be a single company that would short-list you for their job vacancy at an interview when they see you have a criminal record for violence.
And so why is it that this piece of scum and his agent are assuming that he will be able to virtually 'walk-in' to any job he chooses?
I support Spurs and Rochdale, and if I ever heard a rumour that either of those two clubs were talking to these morons, I would throw my arms up in despair and protest!
He is lucky he wasn't ordered to do a few hundred hours of community service on his release. That would have taught him the 'real meaning' of working for a living.

  9. 17 wat are you talking about if a teacher is up for a sexual assualt does he get his job back as a teacher footballers are looked up to by are kids would you like your kids looking up to a man who sexualy assualts and beats up women and steals cars ya goat

  10. The sad fact is that some desperate club will employ him when he gets out. Along with a statement that everyone deserves a second chance. But you could bet your bottom dollar that the same club wont have anyone will a similar conviction working in their office.

  13. As a professional footballer the man is in the limelight! Yoiungsters look up to him! If your average person pinched an apple he would get a fine maybe! If your personality commits the same crime he gets a heavier fine, ergo because he is in the public eye! 18 months considering he will probably only do 12 is getting off lightly! As an example he is aa bad one!

What King has done cannot be condoned. Rightfully, he is in prison for his crime and rightfully fired from his job. If he was a plasterer or electrician he would get the same treatment. However, just as if he was a plasterer or electrician, having served his time, he should have the right to return to society and earn a living doing what he's good at. All around us in society are people who have committed a crime of one kind or another, have served their time and are now productive members of society. Just because King is a professional sportsman should not mean his punishment should be any more or less severe than Joe Public.

  16. Both comments 5 and 8 are correct they are praying that some club will be daft enough to sign him when he is released from "chokey" due to their meal ticket having gone down the pan this week. The jury only covicted him on a 10 to 2 majority did two of them fall asleep during the evidence.

Comments 11 and 12, you are a stupid scum bag, as for comment 13 no I'm not a saint but I have never hit a woman.
