Macken strike sinks Posh

Jon Macken`s angled drive gave Barnsley a 2-1 win which keeps Peterborough firmly in the Coca-Cola Championship relegation zone.

Darren Ferguson`s side took the lead when George Boyd hit his 10th goal of the season from the penalty spot. Boyd swung over a corner from the right and Darren Moore was penalised for holding Gabriel Zakuani as he challenged for a header.

But Barnsley took less than two minutes to level through Daniel Bogdanovic. Macken ambled into space on the right and was allowed the time to pick out Bogdanovic, who made no mistake with a poweful header which gave on loan keeper Ben Amos no chance.

Macken then fired Barnsley ahead in the 39th minute. Anderson De Silva picked out the former Manchester City striker inside the area with a precise pass and he lashed the ball high into the roof of the net.

Adam Hammill whipped in a free-kick from the left and Stephen Foster got in front of his marker to flick a header goalward but Amos, on loan from Manchester United, managed to claw the ball to safety and keep Posh in the game.

Substitute Ryan Bennett, making his debut, then headed over from inside the six-yard box as Peterborough surged forward in search of an equaliser but Mark Robins` side clung on to the win.
