Hargreaves haunts Cobblers
Northampton were sunk by Chris Hargreaves' late winner which secured a 1-0 success for Torquay.
The Gulls skipper headed home as the ball bounced up from Kevin Nicholson's prodigious throw-in from the right.
Hargreaves - a former Northampton player of the year - claimed his first goal of the season to end United's 11-match wait for a league win and run of five successive draws.
The Cobblers were denied by Torquay's on-loan Southampton keeper Michael Poke, who superbly kept out headers by Ryan Gilligan and Adebayo Akinfenwa.
Poke also saved well from Steve Guinan, while the Town striker crashed a shot against the crossbar as Torquay held on for the points.
