Hamilton 'honoured' by MBE

Eurosport - Wed, 31 Dec 12:26:00 2008

Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton has been awarded an MBE in the annual New Year honours list.

FORMULA 1 2008 - McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton, of Britain, celebrates after he secured the 2008 drivers' crown - 0

The McLaren driver was recognised for services to motorsport after a season which saw him become the youngest driver to secure the F1 title - coming out on top of a dramatic battle with Felipe Massa to lift the crown at just 23 years of age.

Hamilton joined a range of stars from the British Olympic team in receiving an honour, including cyclist Chris Hoy, who was given a knighthood.

"It is a massive honour and incredible privilege for me to receive an MBE from Her Majesty the Queen," Hamilton said.

"It is the most amazing culmination to what has been quite a year for me.

"The support I have received from the UK as a whole has been fantastic and a huge motivation - it is something I am very appreciative of.

"This is not just a proud moment for me, but also for my family and every single person involved with the McLaren team. I could not have achieved any of this without them.

"It has been an outstanding year for British sport as a whole, and it is great to see so many fellow sportsmen and women being honoured today."

Hamilton added that he felt humbled to have been honoured for his achievements and said he was hopeful that he could inspire other youngsters to follow their dreams in the same way he did as an up-and-coming driver working his way to the top.

"I am also very humbled to be included on the Honours list alongside all the members of the general public who have been recognised for their tireless work in such varied and worthwhile arenas," he said.

"I am very fortunate to have been awarded for achieving my dream, it has required a lot of hard work and dedication, however it has been worth every single minute and I only hope that I can inspire young kids to do the same, whatever their dream may be."

  4. Touronroute (Racistroute) you criticise Lewis Hamilton for living abroad and make baseless comments about how he ignores fans at race meets and does not sign autographs.
I have seen Lewis Hamilton in the flesh WITHOUT cameras and he signed every piece of paper shoved in his face.
We then come back to the living abroad issue, I then asked you Jenson Button and David Coulthard live abroad why is it different in their case? They actually live in Tax free havens as opposed to Lewis Hanilton who actually pays taxes in Switzerland same as Michael Schumacher, same as Alonso there in Switzerland.
Now my asking you for criticizing Lewis when DC and Jenson also live abroad and not answering could only mean one thing you are a zenophobic tvvat.
Then yesterday you then say Lewis is not English but British, tell what do you mean by that statement full of RACIST overtones?
So Touronroute you are a RACIST. end off.

  16. Lewis has in fact manned-up with regards to his penalty at the recent Formula 1 Belgium Grand Prix. With less than 4 laps remaining in the race, Hamilton and front runner, Kimi Raikkonen were battling for the lead. Hamilton tried to out break Kimi into a tight “s”-turn, but had to turn off the track, cutting across the circuit in order to avoid a collision, and as a result of this maneuver, ended up ahead of Kimi’s Ferrari. This is not allowed in F1 racing. You cannot gain an advantage on another driver while circumventing the race track. You are required to surrender your position to that driver you gained advantage over, and then you may continue racing normally. And of course, you are able to attempt to re-pass that driver if the situation arises.
This time, Hamilton did in fact give way to Kimi just after the incident, and allowed him to pass. Several corners later, Hamilton once again attempted to pass Kimi’s Ferrari, and was finally successful. As luck would have it, it began to rain, causing the track to become slippery to most of the drivers who were still driving on dry weather tires. Subsequently, an incredibly stupid move from Nico Rosberg who drove his car onto the track from having just spun off, nearly caused Hamilton and Raikkonen to crash. Fortunately, Hamilton and Raikkonen being top drivers, were able to avoid colliding with Rosberg. However, Kimi was never able to re-gain full control of his car, and ended up sliding into a wall, ending his chance to win his 4th consecutive Belgium Grand Prix. Hamilton went on to win the race, followed by Raikkonen’s team mate, Felipe Massa to take 2nd, with BMW’s Nick Heidfeld for 3rd.
What bothers us is that, Hamilton’s McLaren crew even contacted the race steward who told the McLaren team that Hamilton had satisfied his illegal pass by allowing Kimi to pass. As a matter of fact, McLaren asked the steward twice, just to make sure, as there were still a couple of laps left in the race to rectify the situation if needed. So it seemed everyone was satisfied, and Hamilton went on to win the race. Shortly after accepting the winner’s trophy, and huge bottle of champagne on the podium, the F1 officials notified McLaren and Hamilton that he was being penalized 25 seconds for his illegal pass, giving him a 3rd place finish instead of a first place.
That’s Formula 1. McLaren has since filed an appeal on this ruling, and is current awaiting a hearing date from the FIA. Lewis shouldn’t have to suffer a penalty for manning up this time.

  19. McLaren were alway targeted by Mosley because he doesn't like Ron Dennis, I think is jealous of Ron Dennis, because Ron came from a decent British family and his family were associated with the enemy, sometimes when someone hate someone for no reason it because they wish their were that person their hated. Mosley hates McLaren because they were alway challeging Ferriari, Mosley pay master.

Mosley is a racist just google his family and see for yourself. Mosley was also head of his father racist party the UBF. Max Mosley, talk bad things about Jewish and non whites he said he against mix marriage and he hated Jewish and Non whites.

  20. I sorry but I didn't see Massa giving back Lewis win in the Belgium Grand Prix did you? Massa is a nasty piece of work but he carry's on as if he nice BUT HE NOT. Massa is made to look good, but remove all the penalties Lewis Hamilton, received and Lewis would have beaten him by about 21 points. He needed the help of Mosley (FIA). Massa said he won 6 races, that show how low this man is. He should thank the corrupt FIA everyday Lewis should have won the WDC in China not Brazil. Lewis won the WDC twice. 65,000 PEOPLE AGREE WITH ME ALSO.
