Hamilton 'honoured' by MBE

Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton has been awarded an MBE in the annual New Year honours list.

The McLaren driver was recognised for services to motorsport after a season which saw him become the youngest driver to secure the F1 title - coming out on top of a dramatic battle with Felipe Massa to lift the crown at just 23 years of age.

Hamilton joined a range of stars from the British Olympic team in receiving an honour, including cyclist Chris Hoy, who was given a knighthood.

"It is a massive honour and incredible privilege for me to receive an MBE from Her Majesty the Queen," Hamilton said.

"It is the most amazing culmination to what has been quite a year for me.

"The support I have received from the UK as a whole has been fantastic and a huge motivation - it is something I am very appreciative of.

"This is not just a proud moment for me, but also for my family and every single person involved with the McLaren team. I could not have achieved any of this without them.

"It has been an outstanding year for British sport as a whole, and it is great to see so many fellow sportsmen and women being honoured today."

Hamilton added that he felt humbled to have been honoured for his achievements and said he was hopeful that he could inspire other youngsters to follow their dreams in the same way he did as an up-and-coming driver working his way to the top.

"I am also very humbled to be included on the Honours list alongside all the members of the general public who have been recognised for their tireless work in such varied and worthwhile arenas," he said.

"I am very fortunate to have been awarded for achieving my dream, it has required a lot of hard work and dedication, however it has been worth every single minute and I only hope that I can inspire young kids to do the same, whatever their dream may be."

    I­ agree with both of you. Too many who post on here­ cannot accept that the team / driver they support­ didn't win this race or that title and make up such­ rubbish. Then the subject of the page above is lost in­ a game of who can slang someone off the loudest. They­ wouldn't get away with it on a moderated forum. At­ least Yahoo are starting to remove some posts that are­ offensive.

    To bring this back on topic, Lewis has been­ given an MBE. I feel a knighthood would have been too­ much, so an MBE is right. Chris Hoy deserved a­ Knighthood for the impact he & the other olympians­ made in Britain.
    Lewis won't qualify for another­ New Years award for five years due to royal rules.­ That's why Bruce Forsythe isn't being given a­ knight hood.

    All in all, well done to Lewis.

    in­ two months time the new season is going to start, so­ why dont you guys stop crying and turn the page as­ nothing is ever going to change the season is OVER,
    50%­ of the drivers including Alonso(Future Ferrari driver)­ said officially that they're going to do everything­ they can to make sure that Massa is going to be the­ champion.., and everyone was happy about that.
    Glock­ was behind LH before every driver went to change for­ the wet tyres..., but he (Glock) didn't, that's­ why his car was slower to be overtaken by LH..., If you­ really think Glock wanted to help he would've gone­ to change and you'll have never noticed the­ difference ..., but all in all let's focus on the­ coming season cause on my opinion LH proved to be on­ his best he has been racing in F1 only two years and­ they has been a lot of talks about him on these two­ years than ANY of the drivers just ask yourself WHY
