Robinho has claimed the threat of the axe hanging over several Manchester City players could be a factor in their inconsistent form.
With Mark Hughes preparing to splash the club's considerable cash when the transfer window opens on Thursday, several players in the City dressing room are left to wonder how much longer they may be at the club with high-priced replacements said to be on the way.
That, according to £32.5 million man Robinho, could explain why such a talented squad have found themselves in a relegation battle in recent weeks.
"It is incredible that with this squad we have appeared to be fighting relegation," Robinho said.
"I must admit I don't really understand it and it has been the one question talked about more than any other in our dressing room.
"One theory I have is that the constant rumours about possible reinforcements in January have damaged us in some way
"Some of my team-mates do perhaps fear for their future and that is not positive, I guess. But there is nothing we can do about that apart from try not to let it affect us."
Robinho's injury-time equaliser rescued a point for City against Blackburn on Sunday, avoiding an 11th defeat of the season for a club which is only two points above the drop zone.
City recovered from 2-0 down with three minutes to go, and Robinho expects the fightback to spur the club on.
"If we show the pride that we did in the last game then we will be okay," he said. "We will get better and better and the things that have happened in the last few weeks will be forgotten about."
Robinho also vowed to improve his own performances. The 24-year-old has scored 12 goals since joining from Real Madrid on deadline day in August, but insisted there is more to come.
"I have to say that still I am not really happy with my performances," he said. "People have not seen the big Robinho yet. They have not seen the real Robinho.
"I want to be king of Manchester City. I said that when I left Real Madrid, but I don't think I have achieved it yet."

wat wud he do at chelsea?? wait for drogba to get injured and expect a slump in anelka's awesome current form?? he would be reduced to wat tevez is at united or chelsea would have to resort to a 4-3-3 which is unlikely.. big phil's got amazing midfielders.. he wouldnt want to waste them..

Wake up Mykie g. Robinho was paid for with strait cash deal, no loans, no debt! By all accounts that is how City will conduct their business, which is more than i can say for Stretford United who are in approx £650 million of debt caused by the takeover of the Glaziers. If they decide to sell United and given the credit crunch, you could end up just like Woolworth's........!!! There is a new Kid on the block and a rich one at that, so get used to the idea and stop your whining.
Robinho wont be staying at Manchester City. He will leave Manchester City n go to Chelsea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Robinho is a greedy silly @#$%. All his talent and skill and he snubbed Chelsea in favour of a much lesser club for the sake of a bigger wage packet!!! Shame on you and may your carear plummit. Bye Bye Man City. COME ON THE MIGHTY CHELSEA FC. 2009 CHAMPIONS.

There's only one City and thats Bristol City get down Ashton Gate we got nice pies beautiful CIDER and if your lucky you might meet the wurzels what more do you want so stop your moaning you hard done by whingers with your millions brazilians and pop band supporters get down the west country we don't moan we DRINK THATCHERS CIDER and ave a laugh
Robinho is a top player and city are a great team and a great ground but i think alot of blame for there table status lies with management how can they get the squad settled when players are worried about getting replaced ok it must be great to have the title the richest club in the prem, but i realy feel for the players there because they no every time the transfere market opens the team is going to be altered and that breaks down team confidance and abilty to no each other's game i am a liverpool fan and you only have to look at some of raffa's rotation dicitions to see that messing with teams can break down confidance allthough it has done us good this season if that's the path mark hughes is taking glory wont happen over night and i hope you stay up because you are a good side to play with already good quality on the pitch.
Robinho seems to really be maturing.
Robinho is the best signing made in the Summer to any team in the Prem. He outclasses most defences and twinned with SWP, these boys are exciting to watch. I find it so interesting that these dedicated Man United 'fans' have not alot better to do than critisise a team that they claim to 'not even recognise as a rival or threat'. Seems to me that you are threatened and jealous. Man City fans are not ignornat to the fact that this turn around in our team will not happen overnight, but believe us it will happen! As long as some vital changes are made at the club. Dunne really does need to go from City, I have loved having the pleasure of watching the guy play over the years but he needs to realise he does not have what it takes to take City forward and into a position to challenge the 'big boys'. Richards needs to build a partnership with a defense player not unlike the spark there USED to be with him and Dunne. Hughes putting a different player next to Richards every game is not going to help the lad and he will not perform to his amazing potential. Vassell, come on. Hes a hard worker but I dont think the right calibre of player the new City will be looking for. I have one more suggestion. Sven took City to a reasonable position, with no money, no Brazillian legend (Robinho) but the backing of City fans who loved this man at the club. Good old Sparky here has a bottomless pit of money, some fantastic players, does not have the full support of the most importnant judges, the fans and he finds himself battling with the bottom 3 not so long ago. Sven was out on his ar5e for alot less than Hughes. There is also a clear problem with team morale. isnt the manager supposed to rally his troops? Finally the personality clash beteween Hughes and Elano is apparent and the boy is also not fullfilling his potential as he is not being played due to this personality clash. Do we really want a manager who picks our squad based on who he likes the most that day?
p.keane, you talk sense, leave dunne inn he shows hard work within the team, joe hart makes defeness look week, dunnne will adapt to new signings.
leave robinhoalone,he is a joy to watch and can finish better with most in the prem.
