• French cyclist Francois Gissy has broken the world speed record after attacking a rocket to his bike.

The fearless Gissy reached speeds of 163mph at an old runway in Munchhouse, Alsace.

The previous record of 150mph, set in 2002, was also rocket-assisted.

Gissy's contraption is hydrogen peroxide-powered and, as you can see in our video, packs quite a punch.

    Just don't tell Lance Armstrong.

  • Manchester United fans still smarting from Nani's red card against Real Madrid may wish to look away now.

The Portuguese winger was infamously dismissed for catching Alvaro Arbeloa in the chest with a high foot - but that had nothing on an incident in the Copa do Brasil this week.

ABC striker Rodrigo Silva was making a minor challenge for the ball in midfield when Sport Recife's Ailson came steaming in.

Ailson booted the ball away but his follow-through caught his opponent high on the shoulder, cleaning him out completely.

Remarkably, Ailson was only shown a yellow card for a manoeuvre that

  • Jose Mourinho returns to Chelsea!

Hold onto your hats: the Special One is back. Well, sort of...

Chelsea fans desperate to see Jose Mourinho return to the club this summer would have had a shock at Fulham Broadway tube after a waxwork of the former boss popped up at the station which serves Stamford Bridge.

The eerily-realistic Madame Tussauds creation was even donning a Chelsea scarf for the occasion and Blues supporters took the opportunity to have their photo taken with their hero.

Surely it's only a matter of time before the real thing is patrolling Chelsea once again.

England's longest-serving football manager is retiring aged 71 after overseeing several trophy-laden decades at the club he loves - but he is not called Sir Alex Ferguson.

Just days after the footballing world watched Ferguson call time on his managerial career, Jimmy Davies will step aside from his post at amateur club Waterloo Dock after a 50-year stint that makes the former Manchester United boss's 26 years look short.

  • Jupp Heynckes’s last Bundesliga match was more emotional than anyone predicted, but if the legendary Bayern Munich coach wants to end his career with the high of a Champions League victory he’ll need to stop a poor run of form in big games against Borussia Dortmund.

The day before Alex Ferguson’s 1,500th and last match at Manchester United ended in a bizarre 5-5 draw at West Brom, another veteran coach saw his Bayern team win a crazy seven-goal thriller against the club closest to his heart, Borussia Moenchengladbach. • Establishment figure: Becker plays doubles with David Cameron

How people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours - Dr. Wayne Dyer

Boris Becker's official Twitter feed gives something of an insight into the mind of the tennis world's former number one. He is very much the philosopher. "Always remember, payback is a bitch," tweets Becker after the above quote by the uplifting American speaker.

Becker has done plenty of paying back since he won Wimbledon for the first time as a teenager at the age of 17 in 1985. Not that this imposing German figure owes the world's sporting public anything. Life scars us all the longer we exist. For Becker, that

  • You can't get two words out about motorsport these days without somebody complaining that it's all about who has the fastest car rather than who is the best driver.

But while there's a partial element of truth to that, anyone who really knowns their motor racing will be able to tell you that there's an awful lot more to it than that.

    And now we have proof.

The proof in question comes courtesy of driver Leh Keen, a racing driver who has finished on the podium at the Le Mans 24hr and won the Grand-Am GT championship in an illustrious career.

  • Relentless Bayern on course for domination

Bayern Munich can make it third time lucky when they face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final.

They have lost two of the last three finals, but this time they look perfectly poised to go all the way.
