  • It started with a chivalrous act gone wrong, was followed by a beer bath and ended with a high-five.

A couple caught the attention of baseball fans at Wrigley Field on Sunday and the ones watching at home on TV. Why? His-and-her beer baths!

It happened when Chicago Cubs pitcher Travis Wood hit a home run to left field in the fifth inning. A husband in the bleachers tried to protect his wife from the ball, but in the process spilled his beer on her. So, in return, she dumped her beer on his head.

This was not a cheap lovers spat. The Cubs have one of the

  • Gray Matter: Sense prevails on F1 tyre change

The heated debate over a radical mid-season change to this year’s tyres has left a sour taste in the F1 paddock – but will minor modifications set for the Canadian Grand Prix end the arguments?

Red Bull has been criticising Pirelli’s high-wearing 2013 tyres since the start of the year, claiming they are restricting all-out racing and turning Grands Prix into tyre-limited lotteries with too many pit stops and not enough real on-track competition.

Ferrari’s four-stop charge to victory with Fernando Alonso in Barcelona at the last race added fuel to the fire and presented the perfect pivot to

  • While retiring defender Paulo Ferreira spoke to the Stamford Bridge crowd after Chelsea's final match of the season, backup goalkeeper Ross Turnbull's two-year-old son Josh became one of the highlights of the year.

Wearing his full kit, Josh dribbled a ball towards goal all by himself. He stumbled on top of the ball at one point, but continued on as the crowd urged him to shoot.

When the ball finally passed the goal line, a cheer erupted and after a brief hesitation, Josh turned back toward the players and their families in the centre of the pitch and raised his arms in triumph.

  • The Brooklyn Nets just about define the superficial experience. The team was put together by a billionaire owner that promised a championship in spite of a lacking basketball resume, before tossing tens of millions of dollars at a general manager in Billy King who has long made a habit of going after the biggest names available.

Part-owner Jay-Z helped shape the team’s look and image, despite only owning a small percentage of the team, and not even making it out of the franchise’s first year before selling his shares. And the team’s arena, the Barclays Center, followed the latest trends with

  • Brooklyn Beckham joins QPR academy

Queens Park Rangers have been criticised for splashing the cash on expensive signings - but their latest capture has not cost a penny and comes with pretty good genes.

The recently relegated club have snapped up Brooklyn Beckham for their academy side, according to the Daily Mail, as he looks to shoulder the family's football hopes after his father's retirement last weekend.

It is quite a coup for Rangers, who may have expected the young Beckham to join a Premier League side.

His dad, of course, will forever be associated with Manchester United in this country - while Brooklyn himself is said

  • Barca offer up ‘Homage to Catalonia’ with new kits

The home and away kits that Barcelona will wear next season have been unveiled, revealing a take on tradition.

La Blaugrana will maintain blue and red colouring for the home jersey, as well as switching back for next season to a regular and more traditional striped pattern, with a yellow V-shaped collar marked out. The shorts and socks are blue, with the socks including yellow detailing.

The away style, as reported as far back as last September, adopts the colours and design of the Senyera, the flag that represents four of Spain’s autonomous communities - Catalonia, Aragon, Valencia and the

  • Bayern v Dortmund: Champions League final key battles

Ahead of the Champions League final between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, we take a look at some of the key battles on and off the pitch.

First let's start with the men behind the teams - they couldn't provide more of a contrast.

    1. Heynckes v Klopp

Jupp Heynckes is a wise old head, with a glittering CV boasting titles in several countries. He is a Steady Eddie as opposed to charismatic genius, although his success highlights how underrated a stable guiding hand can be for the big clubs with messy dressing rooms. It is a shame he is retiring as he has turned Bayern from a bickering

  • Are Dortmund the hardest-working team in Europe?

Much is made of Borussia Dortmund's attacking verve, but their success - particularly in the final third - is as much a result of hard work as flair.

Juergen Klopp's free-flowing youngsters are easy on the eye and on the league table, and their ability to overwhelm the best defences has got them to the Champions League final, where they face domestic rivals Bayern Munich.

But they are as much a product of Klopp's system, which demands an intensity unrivalled in European football and insists on the so-called flair players to quite literally put in the hard yards.

    Defensive forwards -

  • Love over money – why Mourinho had to leave Real Madrid

Real Madrid is a complicated club at the best of times.

Much like Bayern Munich, a long-standing culture exists where the players - particularly those from the local area - are little princes and even kings, a culture that can be seen to develop beyond their careers on the pitch and into the fabric of the club.

Sporting directors, special advisors, members of the technical staff... ex-players form the structure of the club, its history.

As a result coaches, no matter how impressive their CVs and reputations, come and go, rarely lasting more than two or three seasons and often barely completing
