Bunker Mentality
  • The wins just keeping coming for Rory McIlroy.

One week after the 23-year-old held on to win the Deutsche Bank Championship for his third win of the season, he backed it up with another stellar performance to pick up his second straight win and third in his last four events at the BMW Championship with a 5-under 67 to win by two shots.

No doubt about it, McIlroy's in a zone that only a select few golfers have found in their career - and the scary thing is this appears to just be the start of a magical run for the best player in golf.

It won't take a lot for the US Ryder Cup team to get fired up for the biennial matches at Medinah. With a home-course advantage and the 2010 Ryder Cup likely still in the back of their minds, there's no question captain Davis Love III and his entire team will be motivated to wrest the Cup away from the European squad.

But just in case motivation becomes an issue at any point during the week, Love has someone on standby who's more than willing to ignite the squad with a fiery speech. That "someone" would be one Michael Jeffrey Jordan - winner of six NBA Championships with the Bulls, and

  • Tiger Woods tops $100 million mark

Tiger Woods reacts to his shot on the 15th fairway during the final round of the Deutsche Bank Championship (Reuters)

Tiger Woods's comeback bid at the Deutsche Bank Championship came up short on Monday. But don't feel too bad for the 14-time Major winner.

With the $544,000 he earned from finishing solo third, Woods became the first player in US PGA Tour history to eclipse the $100 million mark in career earnings.

That, friends, is what we call "crazy money." Even with the increase in purses over the years - thanks to Woods's popularity - there's a good chance we'll never see another golfer get anywhere close to that number in the future, due in large part to the quality of today's tournament fields.

    "Well,

Let's be honest, we're all incredibly busy. Nobody has time to sit down and watch four rounds of golf coverage - unless, of course, you watch TV for a living, and if that's the case, please email us your number. So in an effort to condense the tournament coverage for you into a few quick hits, here are five things we learned from the Deutsche Bank Championship.

Rory McIlroy's great season gets even better — You know what makes a good season great? Winning a Major championship by eight shots. So what, pray tell, would make a great season even better (aside from another Major)? How about a

  • Golf buddies hit hole-in-ones on same hole

2408_GolfBuddies_blogTwo veteran golfing buddies were left stunned when they both scored hole-in-ones on the same tee.

Robert Kynaston, 67, was delighted as he watched his ball land straight in the hole at the 150-yard par-three second hole at The Players Club in Bristol.

However, he was gobsmacked when his playing partner Derek Woodward, 66, stepped up and repeated the trick.

The odds of the two players scoring hole-in-ones off the same tee back-to-back is believed to be 17 million to one.

"We were gobsmacked on the tee," Robert is quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror.

"It was just so unbelievable and I've never

  • Sergio Garcia waves after making birdie on the 15th hole during the third round of the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club (AFP)

It's good to be David Faircloth. The North Carolina native, who started out the week caddying in the pro-am for one of the Wyndham Championship's tournament organisers, received the offer of a lifetime right before the start of the first round, when he was asked if he wanted to make a little extra coin and loop for one of the players in the field.

Nice gig, right? For a guy who's used to making $50 to $75 per bag at local clubs, Faircloth stood to make at least a couple hundred bucks even his guy made the cut and didn't finish in the top-10.

But as the local looper later found out, he wasn't

  • Garcia makes push for Ryder Cup team

The Wyndham Championship was supposed to be all about the FedEx Cup - a "Last chance saloon" of sorts for guys trying to get inside the top 125 on the season-long points list before The Barclays.

For Sergio Garcia, he came into the week with a far more important goal on his mind than making it to Bethpage Black. That goal, of course, is picking up one of 10 coveted spots on the European Ryder Cup team.

Prior to the Wyndham, Garcia was a giant question mark for European captain Jose Maria Olazabal, who noted just last month that the Spaniard needed to keep his emotions in check if he wanted

  • American player records two aces in one round

Here's a question for you: what's better than making a hole-in-one during a round? The usual answer to this question would be "nothing" ... unless your name happens to be Rich Akin.

We've chronicled incredible holes-outs on this site before, but what the 67-year-old Texan did recently is nothing short of amazing, after he recorded two aces during a Men's Golf Association tournament at Quail Valley Golf Course in Missouri City, Texas.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Akin, who already had four aces at the course before his round last weekend, started things off with a bang when he recorded

  • McIlroy, looking refreshed after a well-earned snooze (Reuters)

If you go back and look at the tape of Rory McIlroy's final round at the US PGA Championship, one thing that seems that stand out was how calm the 23-year-old looked going down the stretch as he turned a three-shot lead into the biggest rout in tournament history.

Want to know why McIlroy looked calm, cool and collected under pressure? On Wednesday during an interview with the Golf Channel's Morning Drive, he shared his secret with the golf world, admitting that he overslept before the final round and only showed up to the course 30 minutes before his tee time.

Another US PGA Championship is in the books. What looked to be a tightly contested final round turned into an absolute rout, as Rory McIlroy pulled away from the field on the back-nine to win by eight shots.

McIlroy, of course, came out the big winner this week. But he wasn't the only one making noise, good or bad, during the final Major of 2012. Here's a look at the winners and losers from Kiawah Island's Ocean Course.
