Ahead of the Euro 2012 finals, we study a figure who is aiming to follow in the footsteps of Ukraine team-mate and legend Andriy Shevchenko by impressing on the big stage.

There have been strong rumours suggesting Yarmolenko could emulate Sheva by heading to Italy and playing for AC Milan, with Shevchenko himself apparently suggesting Milan should take the chance to sign Yarmolenko. Whether such a prospect becomes a reality could depend upon his performances at the Euro 2012 finals.
Yarmolenko was part of the Kiev youth set-up since the age of 13 before returning to Chernihiv after a year having failed to cope with the physical demands of the club. Now standing over 6ft, it is unlikely he will suffer from such shortcomings at the age of 22.
Yarmolenko scored on his debut for Kiev and has come up with an overall total of 30 goals in 84 appearances for the club, but has built his reputation playing as a winger and support striker playing off the main forward.

Arsenal, Shakhtar Donestk and Napoli are other clubs linked with the rangy front man. He has been earmarked as a possible replacement for Andrei Arshavin at Arsenal, a figure who could be deployed to support Lukas Podolski in roaming from wide. He is a provider as much as a finisher.
Shakhtar were apparently keen to sign the player when he was 16, but Dynamo were quick to offer him a five-year contract. Rubin Kazan offered £8 million for him last year, but the Kiev president decided it was not market value.
"Yarmolenko is our greatest hope, and we believe he will help us win the Premier League this season," commented Dynamo president Ihor Surkis.
He scored a fine opening goal against Estonia in a 4-0 friendly win on Monday evening before winning a penalty. He was replaced at half-time by Shevchenko.
Yarmolenko is in the best of company alongside England, France and Sweden at Euro 2012 if he wishes to take the chance to highlight his considerable assets.
