  • The Barn Door Watch

Well, a couple of announcements before we get started looking ahead to Christmas Week.  First, Arsenal have announced that Robin van Persie will start against Chelsea on Sunday.  Given the match-up, his price is pretty outrageous but if there wasn't enough drama already with Showdown Sunday and all, here is another reason for fantasy managers to watch (sadly, this message was in no way sponsored by the Premier League though they might think of throwing a little cash this way if we continue to promote their matches so shamelessly).  The second bit of excitement is the arrival of Seba here in

  • City duo set for fortnight out

Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce admitted crocked duo Trevor Sinclair and DaMarcus Beasley face a couple of weeks on the sidelines.

Looks like another "couple of weeks" on the Trabelsi bandwagon for me!

  • Just Blow It All Up

We've all had the feeling whether it was about our families, our friends, a team we played on, or our co-workers but we've all had that feeling of "I want them all gone and I want new people in...RIGHT NOW." The thought is that the devil you don't know is better than the one you do (at least until you get to know the new one).  The grass is always greener.  Fill in your own cliche.

Why do I bring this up?  Because batsh*t crazy Citeh owner Thaksin Shinawatra has declared rather publically that he wants to blow it all up and get an entirely new squad.  My first reaction was wondering just how

  • The Week Ahead

First things first.  From the home office at Yahoo UK headquarters comes word that, despite what the site may indicate, Chelsea and Everton will both have two matches that count towards this week's scoring.  I'm sure everyone assumed this but I confirmed via email just to be sure.

That said, both clubs face some line-up uncertainty ahead of being two-gamers.  Chelsea goalkeepers are dropping like flies and Arteta is rumored to be "questionable" for the weekend match with Birmingham.  Both situations bear watching between now and the end of tomorrow when you have to finalize your selections.

  • The Week Ahead

You have NO idea how good it feels to be able to type that title in again.  A little thing, maybe, but it means that we are about to move on from the seemingly never-ending transfer dealings, rumors, and pre-season friendlies to the real thing.  The results count for the players and the teams and more importantly, at least for us here at Fantasy Blog Headquarters, it means that we have roster decisions to make and phantom points to pray for as we wonder "will Yahoo count that as a successful cross?" every time one of our wingers' passes lands anywhere near a teammate.  Who could ask for

  • Separated at Birth

I certainly don't mean for this to be a running feature on the blog, but I couldn't resist. The photo of Cech with the rugby-style headgear was just so striking.  It made me think, "Where have I seen this before?

  • Injuries and Suspensions

So Hleb goes and has himself a nice week... everyone picks him up for their fantasy teams... and he gets injured over the international break.  Sometimes you just can't win.

So it looks like Arsene is down to bare bones in midfield. Perhaps four across with 'Sicky, Denilson, Diarra, and Eboue? Does that make Eboue the player to have? Even with two-gamers this week?

And speaking of which, Agbonlahor looks likely to return for Villa, as does Carson. Savage is on the mend for Rovers, but Dunn is suspended for the Fulham match. So Mokoena looks set for at least one, if not two, starts.

  • Monday Morning Manager

Sometimes as a Manager you just get it wrong.  The trick is to get it right again quickly.  Unfortunately, that's often easier said than done.  Just as our "poster boy" Alan Pardew is finding out.

After the international break played havoc with the line-ups, this week it was European matches that did the same.  (Looking for any excuse, aren't I?)  Five players idle and another disappointing result for the Manager.

Everton claimed the expected win against Sheffield United.  Arteta grabbed the opening goal, and THo kept out any Blades riposte.  But the win certainly wasn't as convincing as

  • Injuries and Suspensions

Apparently the nice people at Everton, in an attempt to show themselves to be "just like the big four" are mimicing Arsenal and having a full-fledged midfield injury crisis.  Word from Goodison Park is that Arteta, Osman, and Pienaar are all in various stages of injury-related distress.  Throw in Tony Hibbert as another "doubt" and the ever-present danger of Andy Johnson having some body part or another fall off or spontaneously burst into spasms and you have a crisis that makes Everton players potentially much less interesting despite being two-gamers...

Does it make sense to spend money on

  • The Barn Door Report

The Barn Door Report is fast becoming a Saturday morning exercise instead of a Thursday or Friday exercise.  Not ideal, I know but my schedule in real life has been pretty busy for the last month or so.

Speaking of things that aren't ideal, I have been stunned at the venom associated with the "play one new fixture per season abroad" proposal.  First, the perception that this came out of the blue is remarkable given the prevalence of pre-season tours of various countries for what are essentially marketing purposes.  This proposal was inevitable in light of those tours.  Second, the reaction

About Fantasy Football

The Fantasist is an expert, no, a guru, in all things Fantasy Football. It will dispense its wisdom throughout the season, unravelling the great mysteries of our time. Conundrums like "Aaron Hughes or Stephen Warnock?' and 'Where does Matty Taylor get all those points from?' During the barren summer months, The Fantasist satisfies its gaming needs by losing a small fortune at its local bingo hall. Consequently, it has a lot riding on Eurosport-Yahoo!'s £5 entry, winner-takes-all office league this season.

Coaching or TV? Neville must choose
