    Foreign view: Liga lift-off

Typical Spanish, always late. La Liga kicks off this
    weekend, and not before time.

Real Madrid's epic spending splurge has made it the most
hotly-anticipated season since Luis Figo swapped Catalonia for Castille in 2000.

So what better time to spread your wings and get involved in
    Fantasy Liga?

As with the Serie A game, most newcomers have a 'proper'
value (sorry - no bargain basement Cristiano Ronaldo), and big-name players are
    staggeringly expensive.

Ronaldo (30.91) will cost you nearly a third of your
hard-earned wonga, and is even more expensive than Lionel Messi (28.35).

If you sign only one megastar, you will have to be careful with
your money elsewhere in the side, but thankfully there are a few bargains
    lurking about.

Xabi Alonso (5.23) is an absolute steal, while his Real
Madrid team-mate Raul Albiol (1.00) is already owned by more than 50 per cent
    of managers.

Here are some players the Fantasist expects to perform this
    season:

    GOALKEEPERS

    Juan Pablo
    Carrizo (Zaragoza - 7.60)

    Francesco Arnau (Malaga
    - 8.60)

    Julien Escude (Sevilla - 5.20)

    Joan Capdevila (Villarreal - 10.77)

    Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid
    - 5.23)

    About Fantasy Football

The Fantasist is an expert, no, a guru, in all things Fantasy Football. It will dispense its wisdom throughout the season, unravelling the great mysteries of our time. Conundrums like "Aaron Hughes or Stephen Warnock?' and 'Where does Matty Taylor get all those points from?' During the barren summer months, The Fantasist satisfies its gaming needs by losing a small fortune at its local bingo hall. Consequently, it has a lot riding on Eurosport-Yahoo!'s £5 entry, winner-takes-all office league this season.
