Phelps admits he pees in the pool

Michael Phelps may be the greatest Olympian of all-time but in certain other areas he is just like the rest of us.

Now the 18-time gold medallist has made the admission that, on occasions, he has relieved himself in the pool.

"I think everybody pees in the pool," said Phelps.

"It's kind of a normal thing to do with swimmers. You know, when we're in the water for two hours we don't really get out, you know, to pee. We just go whenever we're on the wall. Chlorine kills it so it's not bad."

The American, who has won 22 Olympic medals in total, also amazingly revealed that used to be afraid of water.

"I was afraid of water at first, I didn't want to put my face under, I just didn't like the feeling," he said.

"I finally built up the confidence to put my face under the water, to start swimming and I finally fell in love with the sport."
