How do you get there?: Public transport is definitely recommended, as there is no park-and-ride service and public parking is limited in the area. Tube, rail and tram are the options followed by the 493 bus, with Wimbledon or Southfields the nearest London Undergound stops on the District line and Wimbledon the closest National Rail and Tramlink station.
Capacity: 30,000.
What events will be held there and when?: Tennis (July 28-August 5).
Public facilities: Existing All England LTCC outlets will be used, although it remains to be seen whether that means the full range of restaurants, bars, cafes, food and drink outlets that are usually available during the Wimbledon Championships.
History: The All England Club hosted the tennis competition during the 1908 Olympics, although that took place at their old home in Worple Road, where the famous Wimbledon Championships had begun in 1877 with a men's singles tournament. The club moved to their present site in 1922, when the celebrated Centre Court — venue for all this year's Olympic finals — was also built. It has obviously changed a lot since then, though, with its most recent improvement being the sliding roof that was added in 2009 as its seating capacity reached 15,000. Centre Court is the only playing area to have retained its original home as the club has expanded to 19 championship courts. For the Games only 12 will be used, but that will be enough for the groundsmen, who will have three weeks to prepare the courts for the first Olympic grass-court tournament in 88 years after the end of the annual Grand Slam championships.
