  • European Match of the Weekend: Juventus v Roma

    Roma coach Zdenek Zeman

Juventus look to continue their incredible unbeaten run, which currently stands at 44 matches, as they host Roma. But it will be the visit of the controversial Roma coach Zdenek Zeman that overshadows the clash.

Antonio Conte and Massimo Carrera's men are currently joint-top with Napoli after five matches with 13 points on the board. Roma are five points behind in sixth.

Roma have only been able to secure one victory in their last 14 Serie A encounters with Juventus, stretching back to February 2004, but Giallorossi coach Zeman will be desperate to improve upon that record.

    The Roma coach has

    Fortuna Dusseldorf

One of the problem women have with football and men is our obsession with statistics and trivia.

  • Barca a catalyst for Catalonia’s independent streak

Lionel Messi had just scored a 79th minute winner - a rare header - when the loudest songs of the night started. Barcelona had come from 2-1 down at home to Spartak Moscow last week in the Champions League, a game which fans thought would be predictable but proved otherwise until the Argentine's late brace.

That's when most of the Camp Nou crowd started singing - for Catalan independence from Spain. I've watched over 200 Barca games at Camp Nou and have never witnessed anything like it. Fringe groups have sung songs or hung a 20-metre 'Catalonia is not Spain' flag from the second tier during

  • Marco Verratti has made an immediate impact at PSG

A crowd is gathered in front of the Eiffel Tower. Lines of security guards hold it back while Zlatan Ibrahimovic poses for the cameras at a photo opportunity after the completion of his move from AC Milan to Paris Saint-Germain. A shirt with his name printed on the back is held aloft. A few kick-ups performed.

Everyone is here to see him. Everyone has overlooked the other new signing unveiled that day: Marco Verratti. "Contrary to the other champions who play for Paris Saint-Germain, I am a little unknown here," he admitted.

Outside of Italy, few had heard of Verratti and as such he didn't

  • Power Rankings: PSG continue to rise

Cash-rich Paris St Germain continued their rise up the European Power Rankings by hitting eight goals in two games last week.

They followed up a 4-1 hammering of Dynamo Kiev at the Parc des Princes in the Champions League with a 4-0 win at Bastia in Ligue 1.

Superstar striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic hit three goals in the two games as improving PSG began their European campaign with a flourish and climbed to third in their domestic table after an inauspicious start to the season.

And that has seen them rise four places to 17th in our list of the top European clubs.

With the top five of Barcelona,

  • Streamlined Lyon roll with the punches

At any other time in the last three or four years, the sight of Marseille and Lyon leading the way in Ligue 1 would have seemed less than remarkable, but this season was supposed to be different.
