  • Robin van Persie has stormed to the top of the Premier League replica kit charts, selling three times as many shirts as any other player.

The Dutchman has displaced Wayne Rooney in the Manchester United pecking order, and also knocked him off the top of the replica kit charts, with last season's top dog Rooney falling two places to third.

Van Persie's number 20 Manchester United shirt accounts for over a quarter of all named shirt sales, according to online football store Kitbag.

1 - Robin van Persie - Manchester United - 25.4% of total Kitbag sales

    2 - Steven Gerrard - Liverpool - 8.2%

  • Tottenham-Inter: The magnificent seven

Tottenham's clash with Inter is undoubtedly one of the most eagerly anticipated ties of the Europa League round of 16.

A place in the quarter-finals of the competition is up for grabs and one of these two great clubs will be tossed on the scrapheap.

The spotlight is sure to be fixed on Gareth Bale, who will again face the team he so tormented a year-and-a-half ago in the Champions League - the moment he announced himself on the world stage.

But there is a great deal more to this tie; the two clubs have a rich history shared between them, including a number of top class players

  • 13 furious Fergie moments

Sir Alex Ferguson was apparently "distraught" and unable to face the world's media after his 10-man Manchester United side lost 2-1 to Real Madrid in the Champions League last-16 at Old Trafford.

Much of the blame attached to the 3-2 aggregate defeat has been left at the door of Turkish referee Cuneyt Cakir and his contentious decision to red card Nani for a high challenge on Alvaro Arbeloa with United leading 1-0 early in the second half.

Fergie has never been overly keen on speaking to the media, but is rarely lost for words when it comes to confronting match officials.

    We are guessing

  • 22 men you FORGOT played with Ryan Giggs

Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs is set to play his 1,000th career game against Real Madrid tonight.

One of the more remarkable statistics from Giggs's career is that he is the only player to have scored in every season of Premier League football since the competition's inception back in 1992.

And since making his debut in 1991, he has had 244 different team-mates with Manchester United, Wales and Great Britain.

We took a look at some of those Old Trafford 'legends' you may have forget once passed the ball to Giggsy.

  • 12 things Arsenal could do with their £123m

The good news for Arsenal fans is that the latest accounts confirmed £123m is sitting in the bank.

The bad news, however, is that most Arsenal fans don’t trust their manager Arsene Wenger to go out and spend it right.

  • 13 reasons Bale isn’t fit to lace Ronaldo’s boots

Gareth Bale's outrageously brilliant winner last night unleashed another torrent of praise on the Tottenham winger, and sparked further comparisons with Cristiano Ronaldo.

Far be it from us at The Rundown to let the facts get in the way of a good story - but Bale can't hold a candle to the great man.

How do we know? We have spent several weeks crunching the numbers and employed leading sabermetricians - here are their findings, presented in sarcastic photo form.

1- Free-kicksGranted Bale's on a hot streak - but just look at the fear in that Atletico Madrid wall.

    2- Headers
Eyes shut, ball flying high into the air - call that a header?

3- VolleysExtra style points for Ronaldo's collar-up effort. Bale puts his into orbit.

4- CelebrationsRonaldo channels his inner Gareth Cheeseman; Bale just looks a bit lame

5- ComplainingHands together, mouth wide open in disbelief - textbook from Ronaldo.

6- TorsoSomebody tell Swansea and Bradford we've found a bigger mismatch!

7- 'Falling over'A masterclass in how to sell the fall; take note, young Gareth.

8- BootsAnother rout - inexcusably low-key from Bale.

9- AwardsMr PFA Player of the Year, meet Mr Ballon d'Or.

10- HugsRonaldo pulls off a masculine embrace of equals; Bale goes all puppy-dog-ish. No contest.

  • The greatest ever cup final upsets

The prospect of a win for Bradford City in the final of the 2013 League Cup against Premier League side Swansea City would be hard to overestimate in 'cup upset' terms.

The League Two side's remarkable progress through to the showpiece match at Wembley gives them the opportunity to become the first club in football history - from any European country - to win a national cup competition while playing in the fourth tier.

If the Bantams go on to triumph against Swansea on Sunday, it would make Phil Parkinson's side the first fourth-tier team in world football history to win any national cup (from

  • Snow halts the WGC Matchplay Championship in Arizona

Play was abandoned in this week’s WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship after a freak snowstorm in the Arizona desert.

Rory McIlroy called it “officially ridiculous” after a thick blanket of the white stuff engulfed the course in minutes.

That prompted The Rundown to search out other cases of extreme sporting weather – and it wasn’t disappointed.

If you have any more memories of freak weather in sport, feel free to post them below this blog.
