Bungling organisers of the Marathon of the North have been forced to apologise after 5,000 runners ended up running 264m short of marathon distance because of a blunder by race marshalls.

Only the winner, Jake Harrison, completed the correct course in Sunderland.

But Harrison had built up a sufficient lead of the race that the vehicles following him were out of sight.

The second- and third-placed runners headed off in the wrong direction, and that meant that everyone thereafter did not complete the full distance.

Juventus have unveiled their home shirts for the 2013-14 season with 1980s-style thinner stripes and V-neck.

The Bianconeri will be presented with the Scudetto trophy this evening after their game with Cagliari at the Juventus Stadium.

Meanwhile, the club has released images of its main strip for next season, which will be inspired by the glory days of the 1980s.

The black and white stripes are thinner, while there is a V-neck pointing to the Scudetto symbol on the chest.

After months of fevered speculation, Napoli striker Edinson Cavani has confirmed he split with his wife at the end of last year.

The Partenopei forward has been dogged by paparazzi, gossip columns and numerous stories about an alleged affair, but always kept silent until now.

"I started legal proceedings for divorce in Uruguay at the start of February and then continued them in April," he told Espectador newspaper in South America.

The FA Cup trophy is ready to be lifted by the victors in Saturday’s final – but only after some remarkable restoration work.

The trophy needed 80 hours of attention from silversmiths Thomas Lyte, led by Kevin Williams, before it looked as it once did.

After a year in Chelsea’s possession, the trophy was returned twice as damaged as the company had come to expect, and the restoration cost around £3,000.

"It was pretty well damaged - so many people wanted a piece of it," Williams said.

"This year it took probably 70 to 80 hours of restoration and polishing, where you would

Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba (which is partnered with Yahoo!) held their annual group wedding for employees, where 688 couples were married. All of the couples included at least one employee of the company and about 81 couples were both employees. But only one couple (we think) married with the groom wearing a Cristiano Ronaldo Real Madrid shirt and the bride in a Leo Messi Barcelona shirt.

This shows that there really is hope for us all. If these two can get married in a mass wedding even though they're on different sides of the heated Ronaldo v Messi divide, can't we all put aside our differences and get along instead of arguing things that, in the end, don't really matter?
