‘Beach ball’ image wins top prize

Mike Hewitt of Getty Images won the Barclays 'Shot of the Season' Award for the 2009-10 Premier League for capturing one of the most memorable moments of the campaign in glorious detail.

The infamous 'beach ball incident' at Sunderland led to Darren Bent's winner against Liverpool, and came to embody a torrid 12 months for the Reds.

Bradley Ormesher of The Times was named the Barclays Photographer of the Season for his portfolio of work during the last campaign, which beautifully illustrated some of the highs, lows and main stories of the season. It is the second time that Ormesher has won the award.

Blackburn goalkeeper Paul Robinson is well used to the weather in the North-West.

Jack Rodwell couldn't care less about the yellow card he is about to get for his goal celebration against Manchester United, and neither could the delighted Goodison Park crowd.

Liverpool's Fernando Torres, who would end the season a World Cup winner, gets the better of Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand.

Gareth Barry sums up the feelings of City's players and fans as Paul Scholes celebrates his 90th-minute winner in the Manchester derby at Eastlands.

Ferdinand again on the receiving end, this time of a rugby tackle from Welshman Craig Bellamy.
